Especially for 15mm figures.

Which types and/or makes of glues, or affixing techniques, keep those shields on permanently?

A little Zap a Gap with a pinch of baking powder should do the trick

Aileen's Stretchable Flexible Fabric Glue. A little goes a long way. As it dries, it sucks the pieces together & holds them (more surface area = better. Great for basing! ;-) The pieces need to be held (or oriented) together while drying. Not going to pop off like if affixed with super glue… ;-)

Jimmy McPerson's ridiculous foldable bendable crazy glue. As it dries it says "hey, shield! get your ass over here!"

I use Goop.

J B Weld Epoxy. You will tear the arm off before the shield moves.

Pin it, then superglue

I second "goop". It dries rubbery, which means its not brittle like superglue. So, in the typical handling of wargames figures, it holds up well.

For 15mm figures, a little bit of Goo (look at a model railroad hobby shop or Walthers online) will secure that shield forever

Two part epoxy or extra tough pva with a drop of superglue

Wargamer Blue03 Jul 2020 3:03 a.m. PST

I use a tiny bit of green stuff and super glue.

I use crazy glue to set whatever I'm gluing ((the epoxy I use takes 5 min to dry) and then add epoxy to keep it there permanently. It may seem like a long process but I have no worries afterwards.

Are you gluing before or after painting?

Paint can flake off reducing any potential bond. Mind you, if you varnish the pieces after painting but before gluing that might make a stronger bond (never tried it but it is a theory that could be experimented with if you're going that route).

This topic is something I have been wondering about with 28mm.

It's far easier to paint with no shields but the permanence of the bond otherwise is the continued issue.

That's another reason to like Gripping Beast figures with moulded on shields.

Definitely glue the minis together before priming them. I use two part epoxy glue which dries in 5 minutes.

If no lug and hole are provided, if you cross-hatch the two surfaces with a knife blade the glue will have something to key to and you'll get a stronger bond.

@Zephyr1 – I'm going to have to try the flexible fabric glue. That sounds useful for lots of things actually.
