I received the book Generals in the Making: How Marshall, Eisenhower, Patton, and Their Peers Became the Commanders Who Won World War II by Benjamin Runkle (Stackpole Books: 2019).

I immediately started reading it and finished it before the week was over. It is a very well researched and footnoted history of the evolution of the generals who led the American Army to victory in 1945, explaining how they persevered in the parsimonious 1920s and 1930s, overcame professional challenges and personal tragedies, and came out being the right men in the right places at the right times. I highly recommend it.
