"How does one delete their account" Topic

Just got an email requesting that I delete someone's cookies.

Whoever asked that has no idea what cookies actually are. Of course the cookie thing is fuelled by those annoying popups that, totally unnecessarily, ask for permission to dump cookies on your computer.

I think it has been clearly established that TMP does not hold any personal data as defined by GDPR. Therefore the whole subject is moot and Bill is under no obligation to do anything when an individual wishes to leave TMP.

I completely agree with that. That's why I was trying to get the person saying the GDPR means Bill has to delete his PII to investigate what the GDPR actually says.

Sorry I haven't responded, but in all the kerfuffle in the various threads, I missed your post.

TMP isn't a public square. It is a privately operated news forum. Think of it as Bill's basement. Your right to express yourself therein is not unlimited. If you make a nuisance of yourself you can be asked to leave. Once outside its strictures you are free to express yourself anywhere else in the universe that you please in any manner you please subject only to your local law.

I am not a supporting member. I have been one from time to time when I wanted the ability to post to the Marketplace, or when I wanted the ability to PM. I am not currently interested in either. I agree with the criticism that TMP is technologically obsolete. Thats why I'm not a paying member. If I'm not paying for it, I am certainly getting my money's worth.

What puzzles the devil out of me is the frantic determination you and several others have exhibited to leave, yet you are still here. You're like Joshua's army circling outside Jericho, demanding the right to depart. If you are so concerned about deletion of your personal information, why haven't you sanitized the info in your profile as a start?

You guys have the TFL forum. You have TWW. You have Frothers, if you're adventurous enough. Why, oh why, are you determined to tank a newsgroup you find unsatisfactory? If you aren't happy, go. We tried it in 1775 and it worked out fine.

This campaign of badgering is unseemly. It has slopped out onto innocent vendors and employees who both deserve better.

The TFL lot is making a pretty big noise. Have a care. Your influence may find the going rougher if it attracts the attention of the Metropolitan Police, the UK Non-binary community, or the Philippine government. You may find them more difficult to cowe.

The whole board is not about laundry. And at least TMP does not hide this information. I don't know how many threads there have been here for weeks, months, and years with replies that contain "well, this will be deleted by the oppressors, but I want to say it anyway". Tons.

Why engage? All the posters are not trolls. Much of the boorishness is not done by trolls, but by people who generate their opinions based on visceral and emotional reaction instead of knowledge and logic. And there's nothing wrong with choosing your own basis. And from my personal basis, I believe that personal feelings are fine, but if you are going to advocate for change that affects others, you have an obligation to understand what you are talking bout.

And sometimes, when you lead people to information, they can actually read it and change their focus.

I just think it promotes the problem. Not all discussion but people having a pop at TMP on TMP. Constructive criticism ok, but this just having a go. Shouldn't be deleted but every reply(including this one) fuels the fire.

I think the distinction you're looking for is the difference between !I'll deleting posts that violate the ToS and Bill not deleting posts that he doesn't like.
