I've been playing a bit of ADLG online during lockdown, using the online Tabletop Simulator system to provide the figures and board.

This I suddenly realised also would allow me to record the whole game, so having done that, here is a fairly short (ten minute) video of a recent Alexander vs Persians game played against a chap in Spain, with the gameplay speeded up considerably and with my own inane commentary dubbed in over the top explaining what I thought/hoped I was doing at the time!

The recording ran out a turn or so before the end (annoyingly) but the die was very much cast by that point with everyone locked in combat, so the main part of the game is still OK (I hope)

(ps – looks like this got mangled by the TMP bug.. so this is a duplicate post with the right title this time )

Interesting way to witness the game! How do you think ADLG would handle old timey scenarios like "wagon Train" of "Viking Raid"? Etc etc. I'm looking for a set to fit all the same way WRG 1-6th use to.

I'm sure they could, in the same way 6th could…. but I'd also say that in the 30-odd years since 6th was "the" set, there have been loads of great skirmish-level games developed and released, and most of them have these sorts of scenarios baked into their rulebooks and play styles.

As a result mass-battle sets now tend not to get many outings with what I guess would now be regarded as skirmish-scale scenarios

Thank you Madaxeman. I'm returning to my first inspiration for wargaming (1975) Tony Baths Wargames campaign and so need to finally settle on a set that can cover many situations. I've very much enjoyed your reports over the years and suddenly realised if I enjoy your reports I'd probably enjoy ADLG myself! Finished my first army working on the second so now's the time to decide if I need to rebase or not. :) Am now waiting for the PDF to turn up.

I played a game last night. Took about 4 hours to a concession. Probably another half hour to a victory. You have to be generous with the measurements and allow for imprecise placements.

That's the best way to play anyway I reckon !
