This type of battle deserves some more gaming. I have ideas. On the list of things that rarely work but that people keep trying anyway: tying all the ships together. |

@AW: The Vikings used the same tactic and created, effectively, a floating battlefield. And yes you are right, it rarely (if ever) works! BTW: the French may have been using some gunpowder weapons as an inventory of one of the captured French ships refers to an unspecified weapon which appears to have had a ramrod. A few years later the English were firing cannons at the French at the Battle of Crecy. link B |

I scratch-built the fleets and ran the battle some years ago. David Manley allowed me to use his Lord of the Sea rules before they were published. It was much fun. The French lost. |
