…controversial war museum

"On the 69th anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II today, dozens of Japanese cabinet ministers and lawmakers wearing dark suits quietly paid their respects at Tokyo's controversial Yasukuni Shrine, which honors many considered war criminals, as well as over two million other Japanese war dead.

When I "taught English" in Japan a JSDF medical officer used to come in for one on one lessons. Anyway he would just put up maps and lecture me in English on why Japan was righteous in World War 2 and that the treatment of Japan by the US and its allies was apparently racist. He used to say Japan was just getting colonies like all Western countries. I said my country, Australia never had colonies, well we had a protectorate in New Guinea but they liked us, most of Japan's conquests hated the Japanese for their brutality. Oh but they nuked the Japanese and not the Nazis because of racism he told me. But I said oh no, Imperial Japanese would literally fight to the last man almost every time. They nuked Japan to save many more lives I said. I gave as much as he did and he kept paying and coming back to lecture me. Bleeped text that guy.
