A wrong misconception from the beginning. The Spanish contingent was only a very small part of the Coalition attacking the Aztecs. Several rival tribes were fighting the Aztecs as well.

Wackmole917 Jun 2020 3:33 p.m. PST

And more Spanish forces would have shown up later.

So they push it back a few years.

Sadly, disease meant that the Aztecs were doomed regardless of defeating the 1st invasion wave.

Thanks,

John

Mexico would have ended up as part of the US, though it will someday be the opposite.

+1 to Rudy, Wackmole9, JMcCarroll and John.

If the Aztecs could have defeated Cortes and his Tlaxcallan led allies, the inevitable would have just slide along the time line. Just the years in the history books would have changed.

Oh boy, yes more Conquistador would have would have kept coming.

With the war in Italy brewing up again in 1522 it may well be that Spain would not have sent many resources to the Americas for years to come.

If we assume a total failure of Cortes the situation in Mexico would likely be a war between the Aztecs and the Tlaxcaltecs with minor Spanish involement (and a probable Aztec victory) – and a subsequent major weakening by the various epidemies that contact with Europe meant. Still, depending on the surge of the Spanish interests (remember that they DO miss some of the gold to finance their ventures) the winner could have time to recover. Even with money flowing in from the Americas Charles had one crisis after the other to cope with, as France, the Ottomans and the Protestants would compete with each other to make serious trouble. There would most likely be no conquest of the Inka in time, and there is a small chance that the Americas would have adapted sufficiently to keep contain the European colonies to the islands and coast. Constant contact would have effected some sort of military revolution, which would have delayed or forestalled conquest – which would have cancelled out the "Spanish" century, and perhaps resulted in an Ottoman mediterran sea. Parts of Asia and even Africa never succumbed to European rule, and the Americas could have easily started this, or rather: stopped the process at the beginning.

So, to me, the video makes sense, even when the first decades could get some more coverage.

So the delay affect hampers Coronado ventures in SW America, Narvez along the northern gulf coast, DeLeon in Florida and DeSoto in SE America.

With such a the ones in Florida were wiped out by the Spanish.
There is also the matter of raids along the Atlantic coast between the British and Spanish.delay, France gains a stronger foothold in Florida and the gulf coast.

The Aztecs were doomed the moment the Spanish saw their gold…

Don't forget that the Aztecs had made more enemies than just the Tlaxcalan. The Chinantec were ready to ally with the Spanish and had made agreements to help, but the Aztecs fell to the Tlaxca-Spanish alliance before the Oaxan soldiers arrived. They had sent supplies on in advance though. There were many other tribes that hated the Aztecs just as much as the Tlaxcalans and would join the Spainsh or anyone that had a chance to overthrow them. The Aztecs were going to fall, the Spanish just sped up the process.

I don't think it was the Spanish alone that did for the Aztecs, it was the smallpox and various other diseases the foreigners brought with them. With no immunity, the Aztecs would never have been able to overcome them!

Zephyr1+ this is an era of Captains and really doesn't matter what the crown of Spain is up to.
