I'm helping someone out by printing some 1:700 scale ships from wargaming3d to go with their Warlord vessels. Are the Warlord vessels actually 1:700? The printed ships don't appear to scale well to some of them. If anyone else is printing the wargaming3d ships do they need to be scaled up for consistency with the Warlord vessels? Thanks |

Am not familiar with the Warlord ships (oneovdezedaze will get a couple and put them together) But have scaled the WarArtisan kits from 1/600 down to 1/1200. Would get ruler, maybe calipers, check stats of originals on wikipedia or threedecks.org, see how the 3d printouts match up. Let us know! |

Compared to the 3D print files available the larger Warlord ships – plastic 74s and resin 120s ones seem to be about the right size, but the Frigate is a bit long and too high in the water. The Warlord Brig is massive compared the the 3D files. Real Frigates and Brigs come in many sizes but based on the number of guns on the plastics they do seem a bit out of scale. |

The first step is probably to do some measuring. Someone with some Warlord models needs to measure something, probably beam, and compare that with the historical measurements and those of the STL file. Different people can have different ideas of what "1/700" means. Aggravating, but we all know that models of the "same scale" from different manufacturers don't always look right together. Ultimately, though, you're going to have to print them out and put them next to each other because there are different modeling styles and even though a ship should be a ship sometimes things just don't go together. There are a lot of free and inexpensive STL files for age of sail, I've printed a few but have never painted and fitted them out. Lots of potential here. |
