All, Yes, this is late, I've already played some games of Black Ops and posted them, but I figured some of you still may want to have a look at the new toys, so here we are. I've completely become a slave to the Khurasan 15mm DevGru operators, currently owning five teams of them, with another on the way, and so I'd like to show them off. I'd owned and been playing with some 15mm Taliban from Flytrap Factory and finally finished them off, so I figured I'd show them, too, and I bought a new terrain mat from War Sigil, so you'll get a peak of that here as well.
Here's all the stuff I recently finished up.
A SEAL team in multi-cam.
A MARSOC team in woodland.
An SAS team in black.
And a Delta team wearing whatever they want.
A bunch more bad guys from Flytrap Factory (please re-open your online store soon!).
And a really bad guy!
And the new map from War Sigil. For a bunch more photos, please check the blog at: link Some cool stuff that I'm very happy to have, with more batreps coming your way ASAP. My boys and I are hoping to get two more games in of Black Ops this weekend. V/R, Jack |

Hmmm, I think I know those Flytrap guys…good stuff, JJ. Because of you I bought Black Ops and have given them a read through…I like what I have read. I've have some of those DEVGRU…bought them from Jason at MicroPanzer painted. Sweetness they are. I hope to pull some figures and terrain together and run through the rules this weekend. Your AARs inspire me. Might run a DEVGRU vs. PMC game, those would be the PMCs you painted for me. Time to get them on the table! |

Do the rules play OK at 15mm? The review I've just read say 25/28mm or 1/72. Normally I would convert inches to cm for this in fantasy but not sure how weapons ranges etc would be impacted in modern times… |

Darryl – Yeah man, they're pretty nifty ;) I'm looking forward to seeing you play some Black Ops, but playing DEVGRU vs PMCs??? Surely your DEVGRU should be taking on some terrorists, right? It is past time to get the PMCs on the table, though! ;) Andrew – I think the rules are fantastic in 15mm, I didn't change any of the measurements, went exactly as they are in the book. To me the ranges look more realistic in 15mm but that is, of course, simply a matter of personal taste. V/R, Jack |

JJ – Just trying to get actual painted minis on the board…I mean I could have a DEVGRU/Alien fight I guess. :) I plan on using the distances as they are written as well. I think that would be a bit closer to real life ranges. |

I'm with ya man, whatever it takes to get a fight in ;) And yes, try it with the distances as written, works like a charm. Both times I played on a 4' x 4' table, but the one thing I did different to the rules was I didn't put the objective in the middle of the table, I put it at the far end. I really like the sneaking around part, so want to get in as much of it as I can ;) v/R, Jack |

Wow Jack, great work on the figures as always and thanks to your post I finally found the mat I've been looking for! |

Hey buddy, thanks! And yeah, the mat is great, you'll love it. I saw ya got yourself into a bit of trouble here recently; please don't get yourself kicked off TMP! While you were gone I posted two batreps with Black Ops, I bet you'd enjoy them. V/R, Jack |

Cool man. Yeah I'm thinking get the 6x4 shoreline with tropical water (your's is tropical right?) but lengthways and some fur matts for some deeper inland territory. Then I'll be ready for 2/6 Marines, Apache Company, 2nd Platoon in their AAVs to hit their section of the (lightly defended?) Cuban beach east of Havana (don't tell the Cubans..) I'll check out the batreps, thanks! |
Just Jack | 13 Jun 2020 8:17 p.m. PST |
Yes, tropical. I don't know if I told you, but Lejeune was my first duty station. I started with C/1/2, chopped to A/1/6 and actually deployed to Gitmo for a few months. You may be just having fun with "Apache Company" (I do stuff like that all the time), but just in case, please note that in real life 1st Bn has A, B, and C Companies (as well as a Weapons Company), then 2nd Bn has E, F, and G Companies, and 3rd Bn has I, K, and L Companies. *D, H, and M Companies are disestablished after Vietnam, when infantry battalions had four rifle companies, and "J" was never used as a company designator, though I have no idea why. Ah Jack, great call and exactly the kind of I need reminding of. 2nd Battalion Echo, Foxtrot and Golf. For sure, will amend that. I read Apache on Wikipedia for (of course 1/6 Marines and was wondering if that was a modern designation, if, back in the '80s where I'm setting my very slow burn project, they woudln't have used a generic "Alpha" for A Company? So, D, H and M weren't the designations for the Weapons companies? |
Just Jack | 14 Jun 2020 6:28 a.m. PST |
Anytime! Sorry, company designators are boring: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc… Radio call signs are different; in Iraq in 2004 the rifle companies for 1/5 (A, B, and C) were Apache, Blackhawk, and Cherokee. I can't remember what was Wpns Co was, but each platoon had a different name; one was "Little Wolf" and another was "Heavy Cloud." I was briefly with K/3/1 in Iraq and we were Sparta, can't remember the rest of the battalion anymore. I don't know how far back it changed, but in WWII to Vietnam era the companies were Able, Baker, Charlie, Dog, but pretty sure they were Alpha, Bravo, etc…, by the 80s. D, H, and M are reserved for the 4th rifle company per battalion, weapons companies are simply referred to as "Weapons Company," written W/1/5 (which is company/battalion/regiment). V/R, Jack |
