Nope, not at all. Perhaps, after getting spelling correct, a note on what the link is about, so we don't waste our precious time…? thanks |

Wow! … precious time? … I must apologize hotly because I suppose that I am dealing with some Nuclear Engineer or Physics Doctor of NASA … and I making him lose a microsecond of his precious life … what a bad thing from my part!…. I apologize on my knees … with all the genuflections required of your majesty….(smile) I promise to do my best not to commit such a disaster again… (smile) Incidentally … perhaps your majesty should I take a little workshop on … good manners?… (smile) Amicalement Armand |

Dave, Are you ever friendly? Either don't read his post and reply or enjoy the graphic novel he posted. |

There are quite a few items that Armand posts for our consideration that I don't care for. However, I look at them all, and then I'll offer my opinion of the items posted, usually in pretty acerbic language. The difference is that while I may excoriate the item on the other side of the link, I have never criticized Armand, who is after all providing an interesting and worthwhile service. |

I passed on this when I first saw the title without any further comments. Now I have returned to it, read a couple of chapters and bookmarked it. I shall return to it a little later. Dear Armand, You find many topics I have no time to locate myself. I don't like all you post but then we are all different. I am happy to choose which of your links I appreciate. That is my right. I have no need to bleat ;-) Thanks Armand. |

Armand Good post. If we want to maintain interest or attract new interest to the Napoleon period, surely this is one way of doing it. Graphic novels are very popular and it could just inspire some readers to look for further books, videos and even wargaming on the topic. |

Agreed, Gazzola. My son bought me a graphic novel on Waterloo when he was last on holiday in France. It's not a bad story – but the drawings are not, IMHO, of the standard of realism that prevailed in British war comics when I was a child, and some of the uniforms are just plain wrong, suggesting the author and/or artist didn't possess much knowledge of the subject. If only Paddy Griffith and Peter Dennis had produced a Napoleonic version of Battle in the Civil War… |

Armand provides a useful service that I am very grateful for. I don't always agree with the material that he posts, but he is a valuable asset to this forum. |

arthur1815 Was the Waterloo graphic novel the red one with Wellington and a Union Jack on the front? If so, one of the authors is Courcelle, said to have written and/or illustrated some Napoleonic titles, although the only ones I could find were the Osprey titles which state Ronald Pawly as the author and Patrice Courcelle as the artist. My issue is in English. Not great but interesting all the same and I know some none-Napoleonic graphic novel readers who are aware of it, so perhaps it has created some interest. Talking of the old comics, do you mean the small Commando comics. If so, they actually did a Napoleonic one. It is No 4823 Waterloo and like most of the Commando comics, it is in black and white. It includes 1813 as well as Waterloo. It contains a complete story from the French point of view. The comic also mentions there are two Napoleonic titles and I think the second one, shown from the British Point of View, is called Peterloo. There is also the comic Classics Illustrated, No 18 Waterloo by Erckmann Chatrian. It is printed in Denmark but I have an Australian edition in English. They are not meant to be history books, so you can't expect too much. But they are fun to read. |

Gazzola, No it wasn't – I'll try to find it and post details. I have seen the one to which you refer. Yes I was referring to Commando, and War Picture Library, which I enjoyed as a boy and helped get me interested in military history and model soldiers. |
