The 29, Let's Go! campaign for Chain of Command was my incentive to upgrade my terrain and finally acquire a decent village church. Sarissa have added one to their 20mm range and it looked like the basis for a very decent piece of terrain. I've done some work to embellish it and you can follow all that in a step-by-step tutorial here Sarissa Village Church tutorial

It had its first outing in a game this week. Here are a few pictures:

That's going be a great feature in any game – in fact it looks almost perfect for The Eagle Has Landed – it will draw JR like a moth to the flame especially if you put your phone inside playing some stirring organ music.

Amazing how simple touches like drainpipes bring it to life. The stained glass also, how clever to notice that the colours only show up on the less lit side (ie the inside on a sunny day), otherwise they are patterned, but grey. The end result is less "toy-like". Great detailing.

@BillyNM—Oh wow, what a hilarious idea. That would be far more atmospheric than just a stereo in the room.

Beautiful!

First thing I thought about was German Falshirmjaeger blazing away in a last ditch last stand, as a German cockney leaps over a fence to take out old Winnie!

Love Michael Caine and love the film! Always found the opening scene with Michael and his squad protecting the refugee at the train station really moving……even with the accent!

OK it takes a few minutes to get there, but worth it none the less, Heh Bobbie Duvall isn't bad either.

This church looks great on the wargames table; the windows have a charm of their own.
One question though: are there really any bigger church towers (or churches for that matter) which are totally plastered; I thought they were of stone, brick etc.
I only know of white plastered small german churches or maybe some smaller italian or spanish ones.

Thanks. I was just looking to add texture to the otherwise featureless mdf walls.

Stone or brick on this scale is tricky to do. Here's the actual church in the Normandy village that the scenario is based on.

As you can see it's not plastered but in 20mm nor could you pick out individual stones. That said, it's neither flat or featureless. So, as always, this is a compromise. Design for effect.

I agree, and you did a great job with itthe church. As my wargames will be situated in the Netherlands most buildings are of red/reddish brick it will be more of a problem
