I have just posted a blog entry about my ongoing project to paint up wargames figures to represent the characters in Rembrandts' "The Nightwatch". You can see it here:

You can see the next characters converted and ready for paining, along with a bit of background to each. Their backgrounds provide an interesting insight in to Amsterdam life in the early to mid 17th century. Here are three from this latest batch.

What a fun project, looking forward to seeing it complete. I stated one time to do a copy of a military painting in figures, only to get halfway through and find out the uniforms were wrong.

You said in part three about the stripes on the flag, I counted 5 and not 3. The top edge has what appears to be a half width dark strip, the a yellow, dark, yellow, and another half dark at the bottom edge.

Keep it up

@AICUSV Thanks! Good spot on the flag. You're right, it's is 5 stripes. I needed to check the brightened version to see it clearly. Interesting that these colours are echoed in details of the lieutenant's dress and his partizan's decorations.

I think historical painters were less fussy about getting the uniform right than we wargamers are! :D
