What is the most sought after item in wargaming?

The war gamers equivalent of a Mona Lisa or a Koh-I-Noor diamond.

What do you covet most?

(And how many do you need?) evil grin

Nothing because I have it all! Wait no, there are one or two things on my wish list…
Historicon moved from Lancaster PA to Los Angeles California and the Perry twins chained to a table in my shop sculpting figures for me 24/7! Next to them would be Kevin Dalimore and Tom Weiss painting everything as it was sculpted!

MajorB27 May 2020 9:39 a.m. PST

painting everything as it was sculpted!

But then you'll only get one of each figure. And did you know that the sculpts are 3x – three times the size of the final production figures?

I don't know about minis, but there are a couple 1/700 kits I would love to find.

The original D&D minis from Ral Partha, in 25mm and 15mm? Molds required to be destroyed when the license was dropped.

Other players who understand the rules and game, and who want to have a good time instead of arguing over those rules.

A 28mm T-Series droid from Clone Wars!

It was a model of Ahsoka Tano, but a nice fellow TMPer from the good ol' USA sold me one!!!

I think David wins.

I was going to say, "Awesome opponents" but his is better.

14Bore27 May 2020 10:51 a.m. PST

Editor Bill you mean I might have some figures that are worthy?

USAFpilot27 May 2020 11:18 a.m. PST

Those old Ral Partha figures for D&D were quite nice.

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP27 May 2020 11:19 a.m. PST

I think David Manley takes the win on this topic.

Being in rather a nice run of free time for the last several weeks proves it to me, anyway. Looking forward to retirement now. I'll actually be able to get some stuff done.

Royston Papworth27 May 2020 11:36 a.m. PST

Auto-correcting paint, that always changes to the right colour for the figure…

Oberlindes, I have bad news. They let people retire because they run out of energy.

Otherwise--
Possibly the Mike's Models molds, reported destroyed? The long out of production Squats or Teddy Bears? Call them the Lost Dutchman Mines of the hobby rather than the Koh-i-Nor, perhaps.

For myself? Time and energy, the right opponents. A big miniatures convention within driving range would be nice.

If I were picking a material thing--a set of SF skirmish rules, flexible enough to work with existing figures, easy on bookkeeping and not to exceed four typed pages.

Dragon Gunner27 May 2020 1:51 p.m. PST

It is going to be different for everyone…

The old 40k modular jungle trees. I would buy hundreds of sprues and I could use them in several games. In larger scales I can pass them as bushes/ shrubs and in smaller scales outright jungle. I want to buy them at retail prices in bulk!

3D color printer to print pre painted miniatures for historical periods. Preset selections for uniforms just order how many you need or want. I always wanted to get into Napoleonic's but detest the idea of painting that many miniatures.

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP27 May 2020 2:08 p.m. PST

As a spin on Royston Papworth's request; tartan paints for every clan.

evilgong27 May 2020 2:11 p.m. PST

A new set of Napoleonic rules

Bashytubits27 May 2020 2:17 p.m. PST

A 3d printer that makes fully painted figures for any era in any uniform.

Bingo Bashytubits . Can you imagine a printer like that? Would be awesome. Lets see its AWI weekend, turn printer on & go.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP27 May 2020 3:50 p.m. PST

Shagnasty, those tartan paints were reviewed about 30 years ago in MW or WI. The line included leopard skins as well. You needed both spirits and water to clean the brushes, but it still sounded like a good idea. Sadly, the review failed to list the manufacturer, but perhaps you could google the catalog codes? I remember Black Watch Tartan was FO-OL1.

How about an autocorrecting Ancients figure which changes to coincide with the most recent research?

Thresher0127 May 2020 5:19 p.m. PST

The low-cost, Acme Mk. 1, multi-dimensional, rapid-prototype scanner AND resin printer, that can perform both functions in under an hour, and that heats the miniature produced afterwards, for quick curing.

Of course, I'll want the Acme Mk. 2 device that does the above in your choice of metals, too.

Henry Martini27 May 2020 7:03 p.m. PST

The historical-geographical void that no figure manufacturer has yet attempted to fill: an historically accurate colonial Australia skirmish range – preferably in 40mm.

Tartan paint

The Josef Ochman sculpted Asterix figures commissioned for the Metal Magic brand are much sought after.

From a personal point of view, I would love to find some of the figures H G Wells played his Little Wars with and be able to add them to my collection.

When I was a youngster, Julian Benassi made a range of 25mm hoplites that were reviewed in Slingshot (whatever happened to them? By the time I would have been able to afford them, they'd disappeared from view).

Oh, and …

wink

Thomas O28 May 2020 7:00 a.m. PST

I agree with ZukuPaul, Tartan paint would be great!

Citadel miniatures Mcdeath and Lady Mcdeath at a reasonable price.

Personal logo Sgt Slag Supporting Member of TMP28 May 2020 11:48 a.m. PST

I agree with Editor Bill: I'd love to have access to the Ral Partha, official AD&D figure lines, in 15mm and 25mm. I was not financially able to purchase what I wanted, at that time, so when the contract ended, and RP destroyed the molds, it was a sad day for me.

I did manage to purchase some of the figure sets I wanted, but far from all that I wanted. I was a day late, and a dollar short. Sucked to be me… Cheers!

Sofia Vergara … no wait … never mind …

Mad Guru29 May 2020 6:05 p.m. PST

My first thought was DOUBLES OF EVERY INDIVIDUALLY-BASED 28MM PAINTED FGURE I OWN (circa 1,000), nicely based on multi-figure movement trays, for ease & speed of play in those really big games.

…But even better than that: software that can accurately colorize the objects in c.19th black-&-white photographs, so I can finally know exactly what color those uniforms and equipment were! I won't even mention what I'd be willing to do for that one,

The most sought after item in wargaming? Reliable players that are on time, understand the rules, and are most interested in "fun" than being a rules lawyer to "win"….

Well, that rather ruins all my plans…..

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP08 Jun 2020 6:41 a.m. PST

I wouldn't mind having a full gaming set of the Minot Thane Tostig figures.

I have a few – but not enough of the Sprites to game without "substitutes".

I'd also like unlimited amounts of the Minifgs ME, SF, SS, and VFW ranges.

I'd also like to have all the time and energy I had when I didn't have enough money to buy them first time around….
