Can anyone recommend any good reading material on Galvez and the siege of Pensacola, the Spanish participation in the AWI or Spanish forces and uniforms of the period? Thanks in advance. |

Found these in a quick Google search. Having not read any of them, I can't tell if they are what you need (except for the Osprey with its uniform information). link link link link Jim |

A couple years ago a book was mentioned on TMP. It is entitled, "The Battle of St. Louis, the Attack on Cahokia, and the American Revolution in the West.", written by Stephen L. Kling Jr., Kristine Sjostrom, and Marysia T. Lopez. It drew some good responses at the time, although I cannot speak to its quality. |

I own the longest siege book that 79th mentioned. It is detailed, several maps, but one can tell it is written by an amateur historian. I would pick it up though because it is a detailed account. |

I also own Battle of St. Louis. It is like an over the top coffee book, with a ton of illustrations. It gives a basic overview of the war, a decent coverage of the west, and detailed views on St. Louis and Cahokia. Has flags, uniforms, artwork, etc. The other titles I am not familiar with, but some of them look pretty interesting. |

I always wanted to read about the Spanish navy in the AWI They acquitted themselves well and were well lead in the Atlantic and Caribbean. Sam Willis notes this as a ripe area for study by an Anglophone. He only touches on it in his blood Struggle for Seapower. |

A copy of GMT's Pensacola board game might be a nice resource. |

I have a collection of books that I got to help with my research. Battle of Pensacola by N O Rush The Siege of Mobile 1780 in maps by Coker The Siege of Pensacola 1781 in maps by Coker Both the map books by Coker contains extensive ob with unit strengths. Other books were used on uniforms including the Osprey and uniformiology CD. |

I have the GMT game…only looked through it thus far. Seems to cover all troop types well. The Coker maps sound interesting. I decided to order a copy. My wife spends a family holiday every year in Pensacola…this might be the year I go…so much history in the area. I forgot to mention that the Pensacola book mentioned above also has color uniform plates for every unit (or darn close to it). |

I got my copies in Pensacola at a museum on the battle down town on the square. |

I would like to thank everyone who responded. I have managed to order a few of the works suggested and have looked at the web pages and downloaded some material. I am going in for a hip replacement next Monday and will now have plenty to read in between physical therapy sessions. By the time I am back to normal walking, I should have a basis for pursuing Spanish participation in the war in more depth so the down time won't have been wasted. Of course it will mean buying more figures… Thanks again. |

For atmosphere, with a romantic ingredient, 'The Long Knife' by James Alexander Thom, telling the story of George Rogers Clark's expedition against Detroit, explores the virtues and vices of the Franco-Spanish contribution on the Ohio-Mississippi axis, from their posts in the Illinois. A damn good read, if nothing else. |

Do you mean James Alexander Thom? |
