I'm interested in doing a Seljuk Turk Army and I'm uncertain what type head ware their Turcoman light horsemen would wear.

I decided to do the Seljuk standard cavaly with helmets and turbans along with some of the foot. My Ghulams will have heavy armor.

But I'm still stuck on their Turcoman mercenaries. I would think most would wear standard central asian costume and equipment; light tunic or jacket, unarmored (except maybe a helmet), bow, shield and a fur lined cap.

But wouldn't some have taken to wearing more local clothing including a turban? Any advise appreciated.

Possibly.

I think that you should just do a mix of figures and turbans in various forms could certainly be added. The Old Ian Heath Armies and Enemies of the Crusades shows Seljuks wearing turbans and I have them in my Seljuk army.

Typical Turcoman headgear seems to have been a fur brimmed cap, possibly worn over a metal hemlmet or incroporating some metal protection … but the fur trim seems pretty certain.

Old Glory has some very nice Turkoman horse archers in their Crusades line.

Thanks all. I wasn't sure which way to go and then I noticed one figure maker's Seljuks had turbans while another's wore more typical Turkish costume. I think I'll go with the latter type, but with a few of the former sprinkled in.
