"Turkish troops have invaded and occupied a small patch of Greek land Greece on their contested border. Around 35 soldiers marched on to a floodplain site on the east bank of the River Evros at Melissokomeio yesterday. Adjusting the land by force is one way to make the boundary run along the river. If Greek response is weak, the Turks will try it again at the next east bank bulge further to the south. |

Good to see that some traditions live on. They're both members of NATO, right? That makes it more fun. All the rest of NATO should now be at war with Turkey, if I understand how that treaty works. |

What exactly do they want with a flood plain site? A meadow of reeds and mud that will have to be vacated when it floods. Hello, McFly, anybody home? |

Look at India, Pakistan and China fighting over mountain peaks so high the snow never melts and the lack of enough oxygen kills soldiers stationed there every year. Countries fight because they have a military that needs to justify their existence; industries that profit off war, a government that is trying to distract its civilians; a mistake; delusions of grandeur; a mistake (like when you want a "small" war and stumble into a major war; politics; race; religion, etc. Mankind has never needed much of an excuse to fight a war. |

Turkey has been behaving badly for a while. I can't tell if this is more than just the latest trivial poke. I guess we'll see. |

Dreams of the Ottoman Empire. Just as China dreams of the Middle Kingdom and Russia of the Czarist Empire. Agree with Dan Cyr above. Stupid leaders are always looking for a stupid fight in their delusions of grandeur and to distract their people. |
