Our group S.P.I.T. Wargames (all two of us) are about to kick off a River war campaign and and develop a game that we can take to the odd show with our wider group…that is to say the poor souls that get volunteered/brainwashed/blackmailed into taking part in our games. We are getting a lot of help from Neil at TSS (Total System Scenic) and there will be pics on our S.P.I.T. Wargames page on Facebook. In case you don't know already S.P.I.T. stands for 'Stupid Projects In Twentyeightmil' ..we're looking a a 20+ foot riverbank at the next available show.
If you have any experience of running a big waterborne game or any reading suggestions we'd like to hear from you.

Do you have a rule set you are using or is it home-made? Still trying to find a skirmish level Vietnam rule set that I like for 20mm figures that I have.

We use a home-brewed system, but it's not really skirmish…our games are mostly either company encounters or company in attack/platoon in defence. I wanted to name it for rule sets that have influenced us – Rapid Fire, Bolt Action, Panzergrenadier, Chain of Command…..it was going to be "Chain of Rapid Action Panzers", or "C.R.A.P." for short, however Pat tells me it's called Fire for Effect. It's still a WIP and is a game that almost nobody would like … super-simple so nothing much for rules-lawyers, more focused on outcomes and the psychology of combat than on hardwear. Also, I'm a historian (strictly speaking historiographer )to trade so there is a degree of dullness built in. Have you considered Bolt Action? The;s a face book group 'Bolt Action Vietnam' with a set of adaptations. BA is often criticised for it's lack of historicity, but it's easy to make it much better history – especially if you stick to historically valid units.

I've looked at the Chain of Command Vietnam version. I'll have to check out the Bolt Action one.
