What was the SOP when an aircraft crashed? Stay with/near the wreck and wait for rescue? Or try to get as far away as possible in order to evade capture? Another 'it depends' question I'm sure. |

Yea, though getting away from the A/C, or your parachute would seem like a good idea, since the enemy has seen it come down. IIRC, the guys shot down usually had a short-range radio, and/or flares to help signal to aircraft and helos as to where they were located. They don't teach "Escape and Evasion" for nothing, AND waiting around where "Charlie" knows you've come down would seem like an imprudent thing to do, since that's where he'll likely search the most. |
