link Morning all, Well this is turning into a rather productive pandemic ! Lack of football to watch and pubs to go to has coincided with a major boost in painting mojo. I'm riding the wave for as long as I can ! So latest off the production line are these twelve 28mm Italian Wars Mounted Crossbow, from the Perrys Miniatures plastic box set. The flag is from the Black Bande of Giovanni and I have taken the simple black and yellows colours as a queue for the clothing colours. Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer |

Great work. Would they fight mounted, dismounted or both? |

Many thanks, Irish Marine, that's one of those questions. My personal interpretation is probably both. Firing Crossbows from horseback is definitely possible, there a loads of contemporary illustrations showing their use. During my trips to Italian museums I saw plenty of crossbows for use on horseback. In our games we allow their use on horseback but with a reduced range and killing power to reflect a latch type reload on horseback compared to a windlass type load. Others will disagree, but they aren't gaming at my house lol Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer |

Thanks for the reply. Do you know what pounds for the pull those crossbows had?. |

Hi, I'm no expert but figures I have put medieval hunting crossbows had a draw weight of 450 to 600 lbs whilst war crossbows 700 to 1300 lbs. Modern crossbows are considerably more efficient in converting that potential energy in bolt speed. Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer |
