I am wanting to try some different hex sizes besides just 1 inch to see what works better for some rules I am working on. Looking at 2 & 3 inch hexs. I am a little confused on how the exact size comes out.
For example is a 2 inch just each side is 2 inches, 3 inches, etc? I tried that but seems like the sides didn't all come out the same length, but that may have been me just not doing it right.
I was wondering if anyone knows of some images on line I could copy, print out etc as guides to go by??? I wanted to figure out what sizes work before I just went a bought a bunch of them and then find out they don't work.

Thanks
Travis
Thanks.

You normally measure between a pair of parrallel sides.

link gives some images you could play with.

Many years ago, on the recommendation of a friend, I acquired a quilt template which has just proved invaluable when I needed a 30mm hex board. Similar things are on eBay for about $7 USD auction (both metric and imperial are available) (and if you buy one I've helped the UK economy!).

Major tip – work in pencil first, my early attempts ended with much rubbing out.

You can type in the dimensions you want, then print them out.

Thanks a lot guys, figured there was some helpful stuff out there just didn't know were to find it:) Happy gaming.
FYI if anyone is interested the different sizes are needed because in an effort to do a space battle rule set that actually offers something different I am working in units of squadrons, not individual ships, thus each squadron has a "zone of control" you can't just fly past and ignore the enemy unless you like getting really shot up in the rear……….Any way the idea is to introduce the old war gaming mechanic of "area control" to the space ship table to force players to make knew types of decisions beside ship A shots at ship B, lets see who gets lucky with the dice. Done some play testing and show promise to give you that big fleet hundreds of ships feel. Also has command and control, random movement and other mechanic's to give it that fleet battle feel. Any way, just FYI if that sounds interesting to anyone………

You can also make a hex field with a simple triangle with 3 equal sides. Mark each corner and that's the center of the hex.

I recommend simply dotting the center or the corners rather than drawing lines. It's less obtrusive, but is still quite easy to see the pattern.
