As this week commemorates the 51st anniversary of taking hill 937, I am reading "Hamburger Hill" by Samuel Zaffiri, and working through a box of Empress Miniatures. I recommend the book & the miniatures. Posted below are a few images of the Empress Miniatures & a soldiers cross in memory of those that fought so hard to put a screaming eagle on Dong Ap Bia Mountain.

I got to Viet Nam a couple of weeks after Hamburger Hill. Same neighborhood. Casualties were still rolling in. The name conjured up nightmare visions… Hated it. |

Very Nice as usual, ToySoldier. My unit in the 101, the 3-187 Inf was very much involved at Hamburger Hill. As Officers we studied about our unit linage, etc., and battles like that. I went on active duty in '80. With many Vets of Vietnam still in our ranks. The ghosts of Vietnam was still very much with them and us even then. Some of the survivors of the 3-187 had a reunion at Ft. Campbell, KY and of course out unit was very much involved with taking care, etc. of those Warriors. Yes, I could certainly understand that d88mm. Welcome Home … |

Zaffiri's is a great book. The movie of the same name, while not perfect, is my favorite Vietnam movie. There is a nice scenario book for the battle: Skirmish Campaigns Elite: Screaming Eagles at Hamburger Hill. It has perhaps 10 or 12 scenarios. I have run four or five. One is even an NVA attack on nearby Firebase Airborne. All that I have run play very well. I forget what rules they are most directly written for, but I use FNG and they work just fine together. This is designed for one figure equals one man, not whatever Battlefront calls their Vietnam game. Tom |

That sounds promising Garryowen; I shall check it out. I do generally enjoy putting scenarios together but it'd be good to have more ready-made ones to hand. |
