I have just posted a blog entry about my ongoing project to paint up wargames figures to represent the characters in Rembrandts 'The Nightwatch'.

You can see it here:

Slow progress,The next set are in the painting pile line while I decide how to as I'm not a speedy painter, and I've been taking my time. Eight characters painted so far that you can see here.

More are in the pipeline and I have to work out how I want to base those painted so far. Researching the painting has been interesting and I came across a copy that shows the original painting before it was 'cropped' in the 18th century. Details on the blog.

What a magnificent project. One of my favourite paintings. Last time I saw it, I had to wait the best part of half an hour for a primary school group to get out of the way. The very bored looking kids were lectured by an adult for what seemed like an eternity. At this point of the lockdown, I'd happily wait a lot longer than half an hour to see the painting in the flesh.

When I visited the Rijksmuseum decades ago, I was the only person interested in the Rembrandts, the other patrons were more taken with the current exhibition of a housewifes' daily life in the 1950's--appliances, fashions, entertainment, etc.

Thanks very much all, much appreciated! :)

@AussieAndy – It does seem to be very popular at the moment – when I go I will have to pick the time of my visit carefully.

@WKeyser – thanks for the link – it was seeing videos of that very flash mob that started me thinking about starting this project.

@SpuriousMilius – I think the painting has become massively popular. I would say it's going through a Renaissance, but that may sound odd ;) .
