It's a terrain expansion for Heroscape, but will non-Heroscape gamers be attracted by the trees?

I am starting to run out of Dullcote and I was planning on ordering some. However, the other day I came across two unopened cans that I had stored away. The potential problem is that these cans could be any where from 5-10 years old. Do you know how long dullcote would last? I assume it would still be good but thought I would ask the collective knowledge base of TMP.

I would hate to ruin my painted figures or not have it provide any protection because it is too old.

If it matters these cans have been stored inside a house at room temp the entire time (again never been opened).

You could test on just one figure, or even a stick, just to see if it still comes out in a cone shape. I'd think that the nozzle or the internal tube being clogged would be the most likely failure mode, not the chemicals going bad.

I don't think I've ever used Dullcote that old.

Test on something, still kick myself with a few units out of hundreds that had bad dullcoat days.

Shake very, very well. ;-)

At the worst, the cans will have lost pressure…

Lost pressure is the usual problem. And yes, shake very well for a long time. And test on something unimportant. I have used paint that old all the time.

Yea, test on a stick, not a figure.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will do some testing. Hopefully they work.

I have had luck in contacting manufacturers regarding questions of usage of product. Krylon was very helpful in an email.

Ask Testors maybe?

Put the can in warm water before spraying for a couple of minutes. Dry can and shake before too. Good luck.

I just used a can that was at least 15 years old last week with no problems.

When using Dullcote shake it for at least two minutes. Then shake it some more. This old can, even more just to be sure.

Used some REEEEALLY old Testors Dullcoat a couple months ago. It was a little dusty looking, but that was quickly remedied with a quick second coat.
BTW I have started using Krylon matte varnish, works GREAT!!. It's about $2.89 USD per large can at Wally World vs over $5 USD for a small can of Testors.
