Hey all

So, I'm trying to find a good set of rules to play some 10mm company + sized WW2 games. I have IABSM, which I like but I feel they're a little on the abstract side. I also own Mein Panzer (don't have the data book) and Schwere Kompanie. I've read both a couple times and they seem a little meetier than IABSM.

I prefer a good set of rules for combined arms, but if I were to lean toward one side or the other, I'd prefer beefier tank combat rules. I don't mind if a game took a couple hours as I have a permanent table.

Anyways, I'd love to hear anyone's suggestions for a set of rules or if you have any experience in the one's I've listed.

Thanks

At the scale you are looking at mein panzer may be the best option. But if you want hyper detaio than BGMR‌ is the way to go, but its was designed for 6 mm. I can't see any reason why it woulkd not work. But in summary, you need to select a game scale and then a level of complexity.
This Video‌ contains a list of games at squad scale, perhaps this will assist.

I think you will find Mein Panzer and Schwere Kompanie satisfying. The Suggestion of Battlegroup Modern Rules ( an evolution of Challenger and Firefly) an equally good match.

This is a bit of wild card, but if you want combined arms then something like Korps Commander (WW2) or Corps Commander (Modern) may be of interest. Each strength point represent a vehicles or a squad, and each element (or base) contains up to 9 strength points. You can get everything you need to play from the Corps Commander IO:group site, but It is rather complex. For example, there is air to air combat and you need to consider long range AAM and short range AAM. There is not much air combat, but this gives you an idea how complete (and complex) it is.

I do like Mein Panzer, but the data book is a little steep in price considering I already own the core book.

Supporting material is a key reason why rules are good, such as with Mein Panzer. Some rules abuse this, but I am not aware the Mein Panzer goes overboard. While you think about it you can always check out the free rules first. GHQ Sqd Micro Squad WWII, The Complete World War Two Wargames Manual, BATTLEGROUP(aka BGMR), Panzerfaust Armoured Fist, Panzer 8, Krieg Ist Mist v2 are freely available on the internet. You can also find pdf copies of WRG – Infantry Action, Armour & Infantry, Challenger I and II on the internet. I am not certain how legit they are. Finally, the old Firefly rules have been copied and placed on the internet, they are called FIREFLY Outgunned. These are alt he squad scale rules I am aware of, if you move up to platoon or higher, there are more.

I think I'm going to stick with SK since it's all in one book. Maybe, down the road, I'll give Mein Panzer if I can find the data book used.

I might even look at larger scale engagements, but my initial fear is there is more abstraction in larger games (which is solely based off an uneducated opinion :)

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I think SK will be good, its just i have never played the rules so cannot provided an informed comment. For free rules they are surprisingly professional. If you need army lists i would suggest downloading the GHQ Sqd Micro Armour WWII army lists. They are free as well.

SK isn't free :)
