I have both S&S lines for ACW (28 & 40mm) and have been trying to decide if I go with GW Contrast paint for speed or traditional Vallejo paint set. I have posted samples below. 40mm Union is GW Contrast, 40mm Confederate is Vallejo paint set. The 2 28mm's in each photo are Vallejo & GW Contrast. The contrast paints make them seem a little "dirty" I guess. Any advice or feedback is appreciated.

First of all, both are nice so you have to decide which gives the look that your going for. Personally, I like the look of the GW Contrasts. |

Use both. I use the contrast paints as a shaded basecoat then highlight up with other acrylics. It works great. |

I like the ones in Contrast paint more since I quite like the "dirty" look. And the fact that I'm now using contrast paints to paint my 28mm figures in no way influences my decision :-) |

Thanks all for the replies. Noss, I'm going to give that method a try next. |

I've tried painting large areas of cloth with folds and relief with contrast while using regular acrylic (happens to be Vallejo) for belts, buttons, other details and equipment. Phil |

Thank you, Phil. I was going that route with the yank. I guess I have this struggle with perfect being the enemy of good to get to table. I slap the contrast paint on and while I like it, it makes me feel like I should paint better. Maybe that is the downfall of these paints, it's sorta easy and then guilt sets in. Whatever the case, if I just shut up and paint I'll probably get them all done in this lifetime:) |

I think the contrast looks great. Those S&S 40mm are gorgeous. |
