Magnifying glasses….need some recommendations. I have a fat head and the cheap $20 USD ones I bought off Amazon lasted about 6 months

I started using 3.0 magnifiers cheap ones from walmart

But also have an adjustable strap over the head with two levels of magnifier I use on occasion as well – lots of versions out there

I use a rolson magnifying visor which has done me good service for quite a few years now. The model I have is no longer produced so cannot really vouch for their current models but they are on the cheaper end.

I use a set on a "U" shaped plastic head band which cost £5.00 GBP on a special offer at a show two years ago. They came with several sets of plastic lenses, the ones I use are staring to show wear, but they have been good value for money.

I was going to replace them next time I saw a set cheap. But Extra Crispy's suggestion of cheap reading glasses might be a better idea.

I suspect that expensive magnifiers may not be any better than the cheap ones.

I use an Optivisor. I don't know what they cost. Mine was a gift years ago.

Now using an Optivisor as well.
Worth the money.

Optivisor as well.

Optivisor, definitely.

Not very expensive: I think mine was like $20 USD including shipping, and it came with two or three sets of different lenses, so I could theoretically paint individual beard stubbles on my 25mm men. I've so far resisted the urge.

The one before this one I got at a yard sale for $1 USD, and it lasted for several years before I broke it by accident.

I use Dollar store readers for painting and reading. They usually last about a year or so. I've tried some more expensive one and didn't really notice a difference. I use stronger ones for painting.

Optivisor for the win.

Ditto Optivisor!

I second Extra Crispy, I just buy cheap reading glasses from the drug store and as my eyes get worse over the years I just buy higher magnification. I do have a lighted lamp that has a flip open cover which has a magnifier in it that I occasionally use for sculpting, but it is mainly my lighting for painting and I don't open the magnifier cover.

I'm with the reading glasses group. I get mine from the optometry department of the dollar Store, usually 2 or 3 at a time. And as said above, I adjust the magnification (switch glasses) when necessary to get a more detailed view. Can't beat the price. Tom

I use a Carson CP-60 Magnivisor and like it (the little LED light helps me, even in a well-lighted area). It comes with four interchangeable lenses with different magnification and I have seen them in the $30 USD-35 dollar range. I like that U can wear it in combination with my normal glasses.

Tried an optivisor eons ago and it just didn't work for me. use cheep #3 reading glasses from the dollar tree, now.

As much as I like my Optivisor, I do keep a pair of 5x magnifying glasses (from the Japanese dollar store called Daiso) in my painting case, just in case I forget my Optivisor when I go to a painting day.

I've been looking at getting something like this myself and as a very nearsighted person, I'm curious whether the optivisor is the better option. I'm concerned reading glasses would mean having to switch back and forth to my regular glasses to see my paint rack, etc.

NOLA Chris05 May 2020 2:20 p.m. PST

normally I use 1.5x and 2.5x reading glasses

has any one tried VisionAid?

I like the swing up lenses to adjust for various angles
