Really interesting article that address the "The Horus Heresy is dead" claims. link (Not exactly a new article but one that still applies to the current state of 30k) |

I never found 30K to be all that interesting tbh, but more power to it. |

Never heard of the system. Not a surprise since I have not stocked GW since 1985. I hate prequels in movies but I do wonder how this plays. Are they bringing back species that have been deleted from 40 k? |
Uesugi Kenshin | 28 Apr 2020 10:52 p.m. PST |
Rudy, in recent years they have brought back 4 old species, Squats, Zoats, Ambulls, and Beastmen as characters in 40k games but not as playable forces. I for one am excited by the prospect of more 30k "Black Books" and miniature sets. Especially the prospect of "a focus on a cheap introduction into the Horus Heresy as well as more plastic kits". |

The original versions of Space Marine and Adeptus Titanicus, both released around 1990 were both set in the Horus Heresy, so I'm no stranger to Marine on Marine action (if you'll pardon the expression). |

I gave up on with GW 40K once the prices moved from ridiculous to stupid. A cheap introduction could be worth looking at. |

I don't know about the future, but I do know this: In Russia, 30K plays you! |

I gave up on with GW 40K once the prices moved from ridiculous to stupid. A cheap introduction could be worth looking at I've never really understood this. 40k stuff is mega cheap in the UK especially if bought off ebay. Even new it is comparable to most figures from other manufacturers. |

They have their own Magical Exchange Rate that is perpetually set at the strongest Pound imaginable. I see that a box of Primaris Intercessors sells at 35 GBP, and 60 USD. Current rates have that box at only $43.60 USD USD. The Australians REALLY get screwed. That box cost them $98 USD Australian, but exchanges for almost exactly 2/3 of that. So, yeah. They can shove that real deep. |

As always, if you're not s GW or 40k fan than don't play. I haven't played a regular game of 40k since the 90s though I continue to play related products like Betrayal at Calth, Space Hulk and Kill Team. Admittedly, 30k is a tiny, ridiculously expensive niche of 40k. If there's a way GW/FW can make the game cheaper to get into and therefore more inclusive for younger 40k fans then I say good on them! As an aside, I know the Prospero project I'm working on will not even be playable as a Zone Mortalis game (let alone a full Horus Heresy 7th Ed game) until the first of the year 2021. But I'm still enjoying plugging away at the units for both armies even in the down economy. To each his own I guess. |

I am a huge 40K fan who owns 5 armies (Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Imperial Knight, Eldar and Tau) but not a 30K fan at all (I have no heresy-era SM armies or anything from Forgeworld's 30K line), but that's okay. The only 30K game I considered buying was 'Adeptus Mechanicus' with its titans but I ended up not. Probably because I prefer games in which the opponent doesn't use the same models. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 29 Apr 2020 11:15 p.m. PST |
@Fanatic, you could always do a Mechanicum all-Knight army in 30k if you wanted to dip your toes into the Horus Heresy. The Mechanicum has some really lovely Knights in 30k. |

They can shove that real deep. There is a significant freight cost for sending stuff to Australia from the UK (my wife is Australian, the cost even for sending a tiny package is astronomical). As for the difference in cost between the UK and the US, the general rule is that any US import will retail for at least in the same numerical figure in pounds. For example a Ford Mustang starts at about $27,000 USD in the US, but is nearly £40,000.00 GBP in the UK. Even allowing for VAT that is quite a markup. I'm not sure what other games systems you are comparing GW to but they don't seem overly expensive for the basic figure ranges these days, especially compared to say Infinity, who sell individual figures at much the same price point. |

@newarch If people don't unfairly single out GW for engaging in common international pricing practices at least once a month, they will literally fall ill. @Uesugi Kenshin 30k doesn't have to be ridiculously expensive unless you're playing an army that has limited plastic options like Mechanicum. Most of a legion army can be purchased in plastic, including Rhinos, Land raiders, Vindicators, standard predators, etc. There is no requirement to play 3000+ pts with superheavy tanks and other expensive forge world units. |
newarch | 30 Apr 2020 9:36 a.m. PST |
@ alpha3six. Absolutely bob on, as I recall it the original fluff for the Horus Heresy had Space Marines in the MK 6 'beaky' armour and the iconic Mk 7 armour, and all the same kit they had in 40k like Land Raiders and Rhinos. Ditto the other armies. |
