I have been working on painting my first unit of Russian Jagers for Borodino. Have a beautiful set of Front Rank figures for this. However, when doing the research on the jager uniform, it appears that the green trousers had sewn in black leather gaiters. The Front Rank figures double as both musketeers and jagers and, as such, do not reflect the gaiter (e.g., no mold line where the trousers meet the gaiters). So my only option seems to guess where the trousers end and gaiters begin and paint black…??? Or, I could just paint the entire trouser green and not worry about it. I am not super concerned about the historical accuracy in minor detail. I will only be gaming with my sons and good friends (who are also not historical buffs). Anyone else deal with this? Suggestions? |

The jagers wore the green trousers with under the knee gaiters as part of their winter order of dress. In the summer (i.e. at Borodino) they would have worn the same white gaiter trousers as the line infantry.
Hopefully this illustrates it clearly. |

Personally, I painted musketeers in summer uniform and the jagers in winter uniform so I can tell them apart at a glance. At the time (many years ago) I did not know that the jagers did not have battalion colors. Even knowing that, I might be tempted to paint them in winter uniform anyway. |

Easy enough to replicate- just run a swiss file around under the knee to create the 'impression' divider. regards dave |

I wouldn't worry about it. If the leather gaiters are sewn in to the trousers there won't be that much of difference since the differences in thickness won't be that noticeable, especially in scale terms |
