"In 1795, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was partitioned by its neighbours and lost its independence. But its people never lost their appetite for liberty and thanks in part to their efforts both countries were, miraculously, reborn in 1918. The year 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of that important event and on that occasion Culture.pl tells the epic story of Poland's road to independence through 10 paintings by different Polish artists…"

Great stuff. I have relatives who participated in the war of 1919-20.

Yet, after 200 years of blood, sweat and tears to obtain freedom, the nation of my family's origin (and where I still have relatives) has chosen the path of far right politics.
A tragic end after all that pain.

Glad you like them my friend!. (smile)

Correction Marek, the country has chosen the path of common sense nationalism. If any country in Europe should understand the importance of national identity it is Poland. The European Union is a house of cards that was already wobbly before the Corona virus and the virus has exposed both the corruption of the principle and the ease at which countries have retreated from their stated common interest. The Poles cannot rely on an other European country, other than those that also understand the threat of Russia, Hungary and Slovakia…unfortunately the Ukrainians and Lithuanians are resistant for reforming the best defense against the Russian state, the Commonwealth.

They just haven't forgotten yet, how they were forcibly wanted to be made Poles)))

Old North-
I agree with the idea of defending against Russia.
I just don't think that doing things like destroying the independence of the judiciary is necessary to do so.

Cuprum-
Of course. Better to be forcibly made Russians. My mother's side is Lithuanian. You'll find no one in may family that sympathizes with Russia.
But I DO love your minis!

Make them Russian?

Are you sure that you are talking about the USSR, in which most large nations had their own national republics, and small nations had their own autonomies? Where, for some peoples who never had a written language, was this created artificially? Where in schools did the language of the republic where this school was located be surely taught, even for Russian children? The USSR can be reproached for much – but not for Russian state nationalism)))

Differences in views on some issues do not make people enemies. Intolerance to the opinions of others makes people enemies ;)
And you need to look at any problem with two eyes (i.e., know and understand the arguments of opponents), otherwise you will never see an objective picture.

Thanks, Armand. My paternal grandparents were Polish, and I hope to visit there in the next few years.
