Hi Everyone, Just found this very interesting 1983 British Army training film about how the BAOR would have tried to stop a Soviet MRR. It builds up from the initial reconnaissance contact through the arrival of BTR60s then the added arrival of T62s ( I think) and BMPs along side the mounting pressure of heavier and heavier artillery and then air-power! Lots of excellent footage and what appears to be live firing. The editing is great as it looks like one film. Plenty of Chieftains, Scorpions and FV432 action. As one of the comments has it: If they'd shown me that at the recruiting office I wouldn't have joined the infantry. YouTube link Hope you all like this. |

Good stuff, the kit was from the US Red Star Company down in Graffenwehr, Germany. Tally Ho! |

Yep, superb footage. Thanks for sharing. A pity no one has ever done one or more WWIII movies with footage and narrative like that. I'll have to search out a bit more, as time permits. |

Glad you all liked it. Interesting point about the US Red Star Company Nick. Must try to look that up. |

Nice film. Of course, the tanks they faced would not have been T-55's but T-72's and T-64's. |

Ah, my dear D-30 in action…however they put all artillery footage they had in one clip…I think M-30 were long gone from Germany, they were written off even deep in SU territory. I'd say first thing to see before the advance will be a heavy artillery/MBL barrage from the guys like us in the back of motor rifles…but I guess seeing the real impact of this in the film might be too discouraging to the defending side ;) |

Thanks for posting this- great find. Fanatik- true about the T55s- unless they were facing East Germans of course who still had a great majority of T55. Front line Soviets facing the British c1983 would have been all T64s. Still lots of of T62s in the front line further South facing CENTAG at this point- with T80s gradually coming in to replace them directly, skipping the T64 except for a few units, which also later transitioned to the T80. T72s mostly further back in second operational echelon although the divisions of the Central Group of Forces stationed in Czechslovakia used them so some would have been in any initial assault but much further South. |

I'm not sure such a thing exists, but it would be fascinating to compare this with its companion Soviet training film for an MRR advanced guard. |
