If both were on two different channels at the same time, I would click to the classic. A. Classic B. Reboot C. 1980 (weirdo!) D. Neither |

Classic, even thought I've been watching The Big Frackin' Battlestar Galactica Marathon on SYFY channel lately. |
StarCruiser | 22 Apr 2020 7:56 a.m. PST |
Classic – just has more of a "fun" feel to it. Both are based on a similar – depressing – premise but, the original has a stronger sense of humor and is a bit more upbeat than the Ron Moore reboot. Plus, you just can't beat the classic look of the Big G. |

Classic, minus the stupid robot dog. Dark and dystopian is like cayenne pepper. A little brings out a range of other flavors. A lot, and you just have a monotonous burning sensation that crushes every nuance. The re-boot is 8 tablespoons of dystopian pepper. |

Reboot, if for no other reason than there is no daggit or Flopsie or whatever the kids name was. |
Parzival | 22 Apr 2020 8:29 a.m. PST |
Classic. My wife and I couldn't finish the reboot after it got bogged down on the mud planet and turned into a grunge soap opera. |
KevinV | 22 Apr 2020 8:34 a.m. PST |
Classic. Modern is good, but too depressing. I also thought the 70's girls were pretty fracking hot (to a 15 year old). Classic had humour, a light at the end of the tunnel and the good guys won most of the time. As it should be. Ah the 70's! |

Reboot. It's grittier and I like how it subverted our expectations in its portrayal of the Cylons as complex villains rather than simple chrome AI automatons. |

Reboot. I watched the classic as a kid & loved it. I re-watched the classic right before the reboot. The reboot was significantly better in each & every aspect. Damon. |

When I was young, the classic version was awesome. Now it just looks too campy to me. The reboot is my favorite by far – an awesome, awesome, series. Highly recommended. |

…I vote for Classic storyline and Reboot CGI… |

Much like Parzival, we found that there was a point in the reboot beyond which we could no longer make ourselves suspend our disbelief. It just became too convoluted and unbelievable. Like 15mm and 28mm Fanatik, I liked the complexity and realism of the reboot much better than the predictable simplicity of the original. So I lean toward reboot. Maybe the poll should be something like: BSG reboot or original? Reboot definitely Lean Reboot Neutral -- like them about equally Lean Original Original definitely Neither -- dislike them about equally Not my thing This is ridiculous |

Why choose? I enjoy both quite a bit for what they are. (1980 can rot in hell for crushing my poor 12 year old heart with how bad it was- except for that Starbuck episode- which was gold). As a kid, the Viper was my favorite fighter ever- I drew it everywhere and on everything). Classic was my favorite show- it just struck me in a way that not even Star Wars did (though I love the original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back very much). |

Classic although to be fair to the re-boot I have not watched much of it I just loved those Cylon Centurions link |
darthfozzywig | 22 Apr 2020 10:29 a.m. PST |
Reboot. I have a nostalgic love of the original but it's terribly repetitive even in its short life. Some great moments, however, and the best theme song.
except for that Starbuck episode Really good episode. The best of the many "Starbuck or Apollo gets shot down and left behind" episodes. :p |
darthfozzywig | 22 Apr 2020 10:29 a.m. PST |
And I love that the reboot reprises the original's theme as the Colonial Anthem. Gave me chills. |

I prefer the re-boot, the robot pet in the original put me right off. I liked the new Cylons and the darker theme of the series. |

BSG 1978 has a 33 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.1 rating (out of 10) on IMDB. BSG 2004 has corresponding scores of 95 percent and 8.7/10 respectively. Also, BSG reboot wins hands down in the eye candy department with Katee Sackhoff, Grace Park and Tricia Helfer. But BSG original does possess a certain nostalgic charm, like its contemporary 'Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.' |

D. neither Watched the classic as a kid and loved it. Saw a re-run a few years ago and it felt like I was watching garbage. If I had to watch a sic-fi re-run it would be Star Trek original or TNG. |

As long as we're on a forum about miniatures, I should note that I always liked the look of the original Cylon raider. I built a few model kits of them back then. I guess they were about 8 or 10 inches in diameter. That might be worth a separate poll: Original versus reboot Battlestar, Viper, and Raider. |
WehrWulf | 22 Apr 2020 9:18 p.m. PST |
Original. In middle school my best friend and I each entered a model in a local model show. He entered a Colonial Viper he had kitbashed extended landing gear and an open cockpit. It really was impressive. I built that big Millennium Falcon kit, painted & weathered etc. Being in the same category the judges rightfully awarded him 1rst and I 2nd. Wish I had pics to share. He passed not long after we graduated HS, but I'll always love that Viper kit. I was happy BSG got rebooted, thought it was clever but definitely darker. My buddy would've loved it just because it was back. |
robert piepenbrink | 23 Apr 2020 5:09 a.m. PST |
You know, the reboot lost me at the pilot. People were watching their homeworld burn, and I've seen more expression in training exercises. And they pretty well let the civilian government off the hook for the disaster, which undercut the civil/military conflict of the original. The uniforms and attitudes were so very "let's take a 21st Century aircraft carrier into space!" That it seemed dated when it first aired. Maybe it improved later. I never hunted it down again. |

Robert's comment about a 21st century carrier in space made me think of Space: Above and Beyond. And then I thought, "Which would I rather watch— S:AaB or the BSG Reboot?" My immediate answer: Space: Above and Beyond. Not sure whether that says more about me or the show. (And as regards the original BSG vs. S:AaB, my response is to toss a coin, then watch ‘em back-to-back. They're only one season shows…) |
Gunfreak | 24 Apr 2020 2:23 p.m. PST |
Haven't seen the classic. And the reboot is the most boring sci fi made since 2001 space odyssey. Some space dog fighting, oh no someone is a robot, space dog fighting, oh no someone is a robot, space dog fighting, oh no someone is a robot. After the first season is was just rinse and repeat. |

The classic series had more heart, but I only really like the first few episodes. The combat scenes in the reboot are great, as are some of the cast. As for the hotness… despite having much more risque scenes and such, and the fact that many of them are very attractive, none of the ladies in the reboot hold a candle to Jane Seymour. Oh, and I'll just lay my cards on the table and say it – Starbuck in the reboot is just as annoyingly bad as Daggit in the classic series. ;) |
