Hi, A plea for advice, tips. Some of you may have seen my Mesopotamia collection and the games we do each year down at Yarkshire Gamer. I am trying to increase the numbers of Cavalry for our games but I am struggling to come up with figures. So far for the British I am using Great War Miniatures with a Woodbine Design Company head swap and for the Turkish the East Ablaze range from Minifigs. But have no source for Indian Cavalry. I am aware of the Brigade Games Range but there are no UK distributors of those figures. My question is are there any ranges from outside WW1 which from a distance would work, late colonial ? 2nd Afgan ? Early WW2 ? I am happy to hold my hands up and say I am not familiar enough with the uniforms to decide myself. Although I am alright painting, my modelling skills are very limited so would prefer something no can just paint. Any suggestions welcome. Regards Ken TMP link |

Hi Ken, Can you use the GWM range with the Woodbine Design Company Sikh head swaps? The uniforms and horse furniture should be the same. Plus you will be on familiar territory with the WDC heads. Robert |

Cheers for the suggestions so far, Monk2002uk – that's certainly an option but I am really trying to avoid head swaps, things stay unpainted in a box for years while I avoid swapping heads. Travellera – WW2 Perrys with Topee hat, they are on my list of possibly, I would like the opinion of someone with more uniform knowledge as to the suitability |

You might try Battle Honors. Their cavalry figures look much better than their infantry figures and mix well with Brigade Miniatures (the Battle Honors cavalry figures, not their infantry figures). Although they only offer the Australians in their Palestine range, they offer South African cavalry in their East African range, which may work for British cavalry. Here are some links showing Battle Honors Cavalry figures for which you are looking: link link |

Irregular miniatures? They list Indian cavalry in their WW1 range link |

Many thanks again couple of good selections, Kevin – wasn't aware of those, but struggling to find a UK supplier. Prince Rupert – I should have known Irregular would have something ! Very hit and miss with quality, might order a couple as a look see. Keep em coming, love to hear some thoughts on late colonial ranges and comparability. Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer |

Kevin do you know of any photos with Brigade and Battle Honors WW1 side by side? |

Ken, let us know how you go with those Irregular cav figures. If they are any good I'll pick some up myself. |

Perry Bengal Lancers from their Sudan Range perhaps? I have also seen on the "Over Open Sights" blog, the suggestion of using Empress Mini's VBCW range mounted BUF (currently off list) with Woodbine head swaps. Hope these are of use. |

Yes, we have no company overseas selling our products. You do know that we offer $15 USD shipping for orders $125 USD+? Otherwise, if your International order is 8-32 ounces in weight postage is $26 USD-28. (You can get about 12-16 figures in an International package under 8 ounces for $15 USD-18.) These details are on our order info page. And if the Brigade Games brand items are in our Brigade Games Ready-cast ranges – then orders $75.00 USD+, those ready-cast packs are 10% off at the moment (no coupon required.) We added 31x BG WW1 pack codes, 5 x Napoleonics, 1x 1812, 4x Western, 3x RCW, 3x Mob Wars, 3x Pacific War WW2 , 3x Victorian Age, 1x Gladiator pack codes to the Ready-cast range in the last 60 days. The hundreds of new items we have released in the past 4.5 years are also in the Ready-cast range. link Stay safe, Lon BrigadeGames.com From the BG mountain bunker |

The Perry Bengal Lancers are beautiful figures, as you would expect, but the uniforms are not consistent with WW1 Mesopotamia. Robert |

Many thanks for the additional points, thanks for clarification 're Brigade Game Lon, with the UK pound so low against the dollar (low one 20s), the rubbish rates I'd get ordering by card and then getting hammered at this end with tax and import duties make it very expensive. I'll do some sums and see if I can sell a kidney :-) Robert, what are the main issues, can it be solved with a paint over or a bit green stuff ? Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer |

Ken, not if head swaps are a problem ;-) Seriously though, it might be possible. Here is one of the best close up photos of Indian cavalry in Mesopotamia – troopers, NCO and officer from Hodsons Horse:
Key differences are the bandoliers (which you often see around the necks of the horses too) and lack of the criss-cross/vertical webbing straps. The bottom of the jacket is less pronounced too, almost imperceptible in WW1. The whole upper body area is less 'busy' in WW1. Some differences in horse furniture but that isn't such a big issue – these men were on campaign rather than on the parade ground. Robert |

Many thanks Nick, they are mentioned above, does anyone know of a Battle honours supplier in the UK ? Have you got any pictures Nick ? Update, I have ordered some figs from Irregular to see what they are like and a pack from Artizan from their 2nd Afghan range to see if I can convert. Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer |
