The TV schedules in the locked down UK are currently being padded out with a variety of old movies (Vikings in leather hot pants in "The Long Ships"!). These recently included "Time Bandits" – ex-Python Terry Gilliam's 1981 film about a group of 'little people' plus a history-mad schoolboy travelling through time. I haven't seen it since its first release so I'd forgotten that the opening segment is set at The Battle of Castiglione in 1796. It features Ian Holm in one of his (three?) portrayals of Bonaparte. Unfortunately (for the Francophiles) this one plays on Perfidious Albion's disgusting fake propaganda that the General was a stumpy little chap. The attention to detail in the uniforms is excellent – albeit they are more 1815 than 1796. The rest of the film is also very entertaining (if you appreciate British humour), however, some regular contributors to this Forum will loathe it because the Supreme Being is, of course, English. |

Anyone who hates Time Bandits can roast in Hades. One of the best movies ever made. |

Terry Gilliam is a great Anglo-American. Time Bandits is a great film, I might have to dig it out and have another watch now. |

Skeptic, thanks for the link. It seems somebody makes figures for every thing, you just need to know where to look :) |

Wonderful series of figures! But surely they missed a trick by not having the nice vignette of Bonaparte, his two very tall Marshals and the "little puppets"? |

Little people, hitting each other. |

All I have to say is, ‘Mom, Dad, don't touch it! It's evil!' |

Oh, and I have to say, if Terry can take the out of Robin Hood and have it as acceptable satire, then why should Napoleon get off the hook? I should also point out that while the Supreme Being may be English, it all balances out in the wash since so is the Ultimate Evil. |

Should watch it just to see one of the 1796 battles on the screen. |
