"Last year VR Studios and Strange Lizard created Star Trek: Dark Remnant, a VR game available at Dave and Buster's locations in the US. Set in the Kelvin timeline the games features the USS Enterprise and a Klingon battle cruiser, but also a brand new ship, a small "advanced stellar research vessel", the USS Galileo. The unique ship features a bridge inside a large window/forcefield bubble, giving players wide unobstructed views of the action unfolding around them in the game. Several of the artists who worked on the ship have shared their work online, so we can get a good look at this unique and obscure design…"

<rant on> You know, every time I see a design like this, my first thought is this. Suppose I were a crewman *here* [pick a point, any point] and wanted to get to *there* [pick another point] then how would I do it? There are a lot of parts of this ship which are physically quite close but which require an enormous detour to travel between them. Does this matter? Perhaps not. It's just another example of the "not real world" thinking that gives us swords the size of surfboards, top-heavy walking robots and tanks with guns on every exterior surface [but no space for ammo, fuel, crew &c]. To me, it's implausible because it would be hard for [in this case] the crew to operate. But maybe if it *looks* cool enough then that's OK. <rant off> |

Maybe look at a view screen? By this point, who needs people? |

Bridge inside a force field bubble……what could possibly go wrong? |

How do they see out the front? They've got this huge bar thingy in the way. It's a bit like the halo protector around a Formula 1 driver. Looks weird and you can't see through it. |
