Hi! I'm looking for 6mm (or smaller) fantasy (or usable for fanatsy) ranges. Mainly equipment (artillery), and monsters (dragon/eagle riders, and the like). Perhaps ships, and small buildings (to mark things on a map).
Preferably renges still in production.
Suggestions would be appreciated.

Baccus has some in 6mm.

Irregular has a pretty large line. Also, don't forget historicals for knights, etc… They also have some in 2mm.

Try Thane's (Reapers) Hatchling Dragons. They are very nice and the smallest dragons you will ever find at 20mm to the tip of the nose.

P.S. The Fae Dragons are also the right size, 15mm to tip of nose, but not quite as common a monster.

Chariot has baby lizards and baby ducks, armed and armoured, that are good for 6mm. The lizards are 6mm high, running with their heads down. The ducklings are standing, human like, about 8mm to the eyes.

Irregular Miniatures. Good service, highly paintable 6mm. Just finished painting their "Men of the west" Army and am very pleased. Their 6mm orcs have an incredible level of detail, especially in the infantry.

Also, they make quite a few ships, buildings, and siege engines, which I have unpainted and look very nice. Also, check out their 2mm figures; don't own any, but intriguing.

Also for buildings try JR miniatures. He has quite a few potentially useful items.

For buildings and the like, go to Hobby Products' website and check out the Empires game, which has map-marker buildings in very small scale. They have marker-figures (which are themselves maybe 2mm scale or smaller) for towns, castles, ships and unusual items like dragon aeries, shipyards and the like. (www.hobbyproducts.com)

Their 6mm figures for the Demonworld game are on the pricey side, but they are superb in quality, and they have some wonderful lines.

The Irregular stuff can be hit-or-miss, but they are generally well worth their price. You'll probably want to ask people about specific lines, though, since Irregular doesn't have a picture catalog of their 6mm stuff. Irregular also has a 2mm line – at that scale, everything is strips of little tiny things, but they do have some larger creatures like dragons at that scale, too.

I haven't seen the Baccus stuff in person, but it looks good online.

I have some of the Baccus stuff, and it's even better in person than it is online. The service is also great. Their fantasy lines are really limited, but they're worth getting.

I'll also mention the oft-forgotten Interno line from Global Games. Their 6mm Chaos warriors and Skeletons are excellent – especially the skeleton units, which have archers, axemen, pikemen, and wraith commanders. The 6mm barbarians are OK, but not as good as the undead or chaos.

For monsters, try Reaper's familiars – lots of squiggly little beasts.

For map markers, try these Mighty Empires map markers from Games Workshop. I think they are still available through the GW mail-order service:

Also, GW's Epic 40K game had some chaos monsters easily suitable for fantasy in 6mm scale – Minotaurs and Trolls, as well as various demons (Daemonettes, Bloodletters, Plaguebearers, and flamers). The Daemonettes and Plaguebearers are very nice, but the Bloodletters and Flamers are kinda big and clunky.

Hope that helps!

Irregular do a range of 6&2 mm fantasy figures.

GarnhamGhast09 Sep 2005 11:38 a.m. PST

I've always found the Irregular stuff to be excellent, (6mm that is) and haven't found anything I didn't like. Ignore the photos on the Irregular website, the painting is awful, and doesn't do the minis justice at all.

Of course, for the really big monsters and such, you could use 10mm (or even 15mm) figs alongside 6mm "normal" sized troops.

The Baccus 6mm fantsy stuff is simply beautiful from the samples I've seen. My only problem with them is that they don't do undead.

Irregular is a mixed bag for me. They seem to improve in sculpting quality as the scale falls. Their 6mm stuff is ok, though I prefer individual figues, and many are on strips shoulder to shoulder. Their 2mm stuff is amazing if you're into that kind of thing. I can look at strips of figures that fell out of their pacakaging and tell of they are archers or swordsmen.

I've been told that you can special order the Global Games stuff direction from the company, Excelsior I think they're calling themselves now. The Skeletons, Barbarians and Chaos have been on my "to order" list for quite some time. There's an old workbench article about the skeletons that includes some photos.

Yeah the Irregular fantasy is very nice and is some their better 6mm figures, imho. Baccus are great as well but the range is not as large.

I've got heaps of photos of 6mm fantasy here and I'm hoping to add the rest in a month or so.
