I got some plastic Bamboo from China. Bought it through e bay quite cheap. Don't fear I bought it before the onset of COVID 19. So no space on an aircraft was waisted which could have been used for facemasks. I quite like it but is it to tall? Should I have it halved in hight?

Not unrealistically tall at all. When I do get out of town I see bamboo reaching 30m. However, you could keep them half this height thereby having more and reducing the illusion of them being too tall. Everything higher than the figures looks taller than it is, and everything smaller looks shorter than it is. Pretty good impression of bamboo anyway. |

I like Skarper's argument that chopping in half would make it go further. Who knows when you might next get the chance to import from China? I presume for gaming purposes this is 100% impassible to footlsoggers. Cannot even imagine an M48 making great progress through a dense clump of this stuff. |

As for moving thru it – it would vary. Some is totally impenetrable and a challenge even for AFVs. Some would be difficult and 'noisy' terrain. I love bamboo. My favorite kind of grass. Imports from China will be OK again soon – whatever happens. It's not dangerous at all since it takes weeks at sea and days by air. If you are paranoid just leave the package unopened for a couple of weeks [or whatever the latest research says]. |

OK I will do the rest then in different heights . thanks for the info |

Looks great…bamboo does grow that high. Some variation would be good I think. How did you affix the bamboo to the base? I have some of this same product, but not sure how to get them properly glued to a base. |

I put a bit of extruded polystyrene on the base first about 1cm high and poked the bamboo into that then I used my hot glue gun. if you look closely there is some undergrowth and stones hiding the polystyrene . |

It looks good! How did you make the rice paddies? |

There is a line in Saving Private R, about the sniper in the bell tower. "This guy's got talent" Certainly applies here. If you are keen on scenery it is WELL worth going back through his recent postings on TMP. I stick photos behind my models, he creates Vietnam in miniature! Paddy fields; TMP link |

Darryl, I put mine on with a hot glue gun. Tom |

Definitely good looking. You must let us know how the shorten bamboo look. |

Great work on the bamboo! It can grow very tall. Skarper makes a good point in general:
Everything higher than the figures looks taller than it is, and everything smaller looks shorter than it is. So does Deadhead:
"This guy's got talent" I'm inspired by tomrommel1's Vietnam photography. |

I cut some of the pieces to various sizes so all were not max tall. Hot glue also. I read on the Warlord making woods article that a bamboo grove should have only bamboo. What do others think. Any chance that some other country will be making these, I am now boycotting goods from communist China. Here is some tall bamboo link

I don't recall having seen many other plants inside bamboo groves or forests in China, although at least one of them would have been maintained under agro-forestry. That being said, vegetation around a bamboo grove could be quite plausible. By the way, during a fall visit, it struck me how the ground in a bamboo grove was carpeted with fallen bamboo leaves and little else. |

Thanks, gents…I believe the wife might have a glue gun. Good stuff! |

One thing you notice from that picture is the bamboo does not have any leaves on the lower sections under the canopy. Does look like a great place to take a walk. |

Never been to SE Asia (bamboo capital of the world?), but from what I've read in personal serviceman accounts, bamboo groves in the wild are DENSE and THICK with great layers of dead leaves. It is also related that the interior of a bamboo thicket can be quite dim and dark due to the foliage all but blotting out the sunlight. Another funny thing about bamboo is the wide climate range in which it will grow – I have personally seen bamboo groves as far north as Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. FWIW. B |

If anyone is interested, at Fort Des Chartes, Illinois, there is an excellent bamboo stand right behind the main building. The stuff has to be 10 feet tall. Maybe more. Been there for years. I have found both bamboo and cactus in Illinois. |

The bamboo on my property is taller than the attic over our second floor. |
