A certain obsessed French Fan of the "King Kong" remake some years passed has been assembling almost every feature of Skull Island just as they appeared in the film. He has systematically bought every EXACT species of Dino, spent serious money on the perfect Kong model (posable, etc), and is even looking to collect the correct flora. In short, he's out to be able to represent in a Pulp game almost every aspect of the film--even including sequences cut from the final release version--and all with his preferred rules set, Howard Whitehouse's original "Astounding Tales!" But there is a least one sequence he wishes for advice on how to put into his game: The Brontosaur Stampede. Again, he would like any ideas either to follow the mechanics of AT! or at least be compatible/adjustable. How to represent it, what "damage" might be caused characters (presumably beyond the obvious SQUISHED), or otherwise how you might handle it in your own games. "Monsieur P," as he may prefer to be known for now, follows this site and will see any/all ideas which may be posted here. Thoughtfully, he has provided the YouTube link to this very sequence for study/analysis/frame-by-frame investigation/etc, and here it is: YouTube link Merci Beaucoups in advance, Brother Pulpers! I loved his previous inquiries. I realized I am not as precise in my modeling or terrain pieces. I am excited for him and applaud such an ambitious vision. I thought it was a great movie. |

I've never played "Astounding Tales," but had been vaguely planning to buy a copy. Is it still available? As I understand it, you want to know what might happen to a character caught in a brontosaurus stampede, other than getting squished. Three thoughts, two from personal experience, one from literature. 1. In The Hobbit, Bilbo grabs one of the trolls legs and is sent flying onto a bush, where he has the good sense to stay until things quiet down. Perhaps move X centimeters 45 degrees left or right of the general direction of the stampede. If there is vegetation to break his fall, he needs help from another character to get down. 2. Once upon a time, a car ran over my toes. Didn't really hurt, no harm done, but it did take a couple minutes to walk around on it and make sure I was ok. Character within one centimeter of brontosaurus preses against the canyon wall and doesn't move next turn as he confirms he is not injured. All characters that survive to the end of the stampede will automatically do this. 3. My dog and I accidentally flushed a rabbit as we were walking down the sidewalk. The rabbit ran into the road, saw the oncoming car, pivoted 90 degrees, and ran off. Character runs full speed one move to the nearest hard cover, then leans against a tree, rock, whatever, clutching at their heart, and rolls to see if they take a turn to recover from the shock. I think for the purposes of the stampede, I'd count the camera as a character, and see if it sustains any damage. Hope that helps. Grelber |

And here I was trying to be "stealthy." Yes, it's Brother Pascal who wants ideas, and Brother Helber (as ever) makes some perfectly good suggestions. Regarding "Astounding Tales!" and it's supplements, as well as other titles by the truly original and unique Brother Whitehouse, they are supposed to be available in at least PDF form through his site Pulp Action Library ( pulpactionlibrary.com ) Not sure why the site doesn't appear to be promoted more, considering the remarkable number and quality of titles presumably still offered. In any event, I hope to see more ideas from folks on Pascal's Problem. TVAG |

We still offer all our titles; Mad Dogs with Guns is currently published by Osprey; all other Pulp Action Library titles are available from WarGameVault. (The Products tab on the PAL webpage is a direct link to WGV). And it looks like I should really update the homepage, since the last listing is from 2015… The direct link for AT is: link |
