The pictures are not showing up here. Usually, when DB series rules list more than one number of castings on a stand, it's because the DB troop type comprehends more than one troop type under the old WRG rules, and those troop types were differently based.

That, or it ties in with sub-categories like "fast" which also mostly reflect the earlier more finicky divisions, but for that I'd have to see what you're talking about.

Consider signing up to the dbmmlist mailing list – groups.io/g/DBMMlist

It's a good place to get dbmm-related information and advice.

As rp said, we can't see your pictures. But in general, most DBMM troop types should have either 2, 3, or 4 figures per element base – _if_ you are using 15mm to 25mm figures. What scale are you looking at?

There is a certain flexibility built in now, for some types, which wasn't in the first edition: Knights (X) cataphracts are given as "3-4" because they used to require 4 figures per base, but not all modern figures will fit this many, so 3 is now allowed. Auxilia and Bows are also defined as 3-4 for a different reason; originally regular troops of these types required 4 figures per element base, while irregulars required 3. This was an inheritance from the old WRG 6th-7th Edition rules which didn't make much sense in the DB* system, so eventually Phil got persuaded to allow a choice. It makes no difference to the rules or how the game plays whether you use three figures or four, it's the element that plays.

Another thought: look at pictures of other people's DBMM armies to get an idea of what elements should look like, in terms of the number of figures on each element base.

The Tagmata page link is a marvellous selection of superbly painted 15mm armies. The DBMM Bangkok group's page link has some good photos of 6mm armies where you can see how the number of figures per page differs from the 15mm equivalents.

There are 4 numbers for foot
2 – Psiloi
3 – some Warband, some Auxilia, some Blades, Some Bows
4 – most Blades, some Auxilia, some Warband, Some Bows, Spears/Pike
5-8 – Hordes

There are 3 numbers for mounted
2 – Light Horse/Camels(I)
3- most Cavalry and Knights
4 – some Knights

There are two grades
Irregular (Irr) and Regular (Reg)

There are 5 types of troops
Superior (S), Ordinary (O), Inferior (I), Fast (F), Exceptional(X)

Look at the "organizing an army" section. You will see that there can be
Blades (F) or Blades (X) have 3 figures
Other Blades have 4 figures

Warband(F) = 3, Auxilia and Bowmen if Irregular = 3

Spears and Pikes, Regular Auxilia = 4

Regular Bowmen, Warband not (F) = 4

Cavalry, Knights not X, Camels not I = 3

Knights(X) = 4

The depth of the bases are also shown there.
for example,
15mm Spears, Pikes, other Blades (Not F or X), Other Warband (not F) are 15mm deep.

Next you need to look at an army list.
So Reg Auxilia(O) = 4 figures on a base.
Irr Auxilia(I) = 3 figures
Reg Blade(O) = 4 figures
Irr Blade(F) = 3 figures
Warband(F) = 3 (all Warband are Irr)

What army are you trying to put together?
