Folks,

I'm kicking off a series of posts on my classical warfare in ancient Greece project – Hoplites…and lots of ‘em! There will be a series of posts on the topic as I work my way up to big battles forces along with mass skirmish games set during and around the time of the Great Peloponnesian War.

Please pop in, make comment if you like and enjoy.

Cheers

Some quality work.

An ambitious project! Nice work on it so far and best of luck keeping the momentum going.

Recently excavated my own hoplite armies from long ago and wondering what to do with them. I'll be interested to see what sort of rules and basing you use.

Thanks guys,

I'll get into basing and unit organisation in the next post.

;-)

Those look great, look forward to seeing the progress. Have you seen the greeks that Footsore do in their Mortal Gods range? They even have head sprues that fit with Victrix so I assume they're they same size.A lot of their Greeks have long hair too which is good for Spartans.

Crikey, that is an ambitious project, and kudos for thinking Big. Looking forward to seeing the units as they grow. Good luck.

@Damion
Thanks for the tip. There are some excellent figures in the Mortal Gods range. The heads are useful but head variation in the Victrix boxes is actually pretty good.

Some of the characters and ‘special bits' are nice…I may pick up some of these. Good tip 👍🏻

@ Huscarle.
👍🏻 Thanks. Yes, it's big or bust!!. I think I'm equal to the task 🙏🏻😘

Gents,

The next post on my ancient greek hoplite series takes a look at my speed method for getting figures painted. Focusing in on the ‘big picture' we see how they are coming along and my method for rapidly produced hoplites.

Lots of pics.

Cheers

Gents,

Another post…this time on the expanding Spartan force. I see red is what you will see…the Spartans will continue to expand as the lightly clad/naked hoplitai aka sailors and/or ekdromoi (phalanx skirmish hoplites) are on the paint table to follow…plus more of these men of the Peloponnese.

Probably look at basing next and then time to thrust this crew into action…

Gents,

On to basing and getting the first big block units done for the big battle.

…Some nice pics and discussion about how I base figures for large numbers of figures.

Hope it is of some use…

Men of Bronze battle report

In this clash our Peloponnesian friends are out trying to chop down olive groves and generally upset the Athenians …alot of pics to see for this upscaled game of men of Bronze that looked great and played well.

Enjoy…

Thank you for taking the time to detail your work (especially the basing).

I really wanted to see further pictures of the unboxing of the shipping box.

Thanks chaps for comments above…

Some more men added to the ranks. Quite a bit of eye candy in this post. Hope you like em.

Slowly building to ward that big battle…

Gents,

It's been a little while but things have been getting done. If you like hoplites then you should like this post…nearly 800 hoplites ready to hit the table.

I hope you find some eye candy worthy of a look.

Cheers

I was scrolling through quickly. Didn't see any mention of rules. Surprising because I would have thought rules choice would be number 1.

Happy Wanderer07 Oct 2020 12:44 p.m. PST

Rules used will be anything that is worthwhile to have a go at! anything from DBA through to Men of Bronze, Hail Caesar, To the Stongest and Hoplomachia…all rules are usable. The basing is agnostic.
