"The Second World War is such a massive topic, you could research it your whole life and still be turning up new things every day. However, some of the popular public perception of the war is a long way off the mark. It wasn't Normandy that was the turning point it was the preparation to oppose the invasion that was the turning point. Units, supplies and construction that could have been used in Russia and Italy were tied up along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coast to oppose an invasion. The Germans were robbing one front to support another which in the end meant all fronts were weakened. While the Germans were prepping for the Battle of the Bulge only 500 tanks were shipped to the Eastern front for example. |
