I realize it would be counterintuitive to their Legion, but do you think they would have created a Chaplain staff to mollify their critics? Obviously even if they created & staffed the position the Chaplains still would have been Thousand Sons through and through. If you look at 30k World Eaters, they still had Librarians even though their Primarch detested the Psykers. Thanks for your thoughts. |

From what I remember, the Emperor was a staunch agnostic. No legion should have had chaplains at this time, and Big E even chided the Word Bearers when he found out that they worshiped him. |

If I remember the Lore correctly, the Chaplain office was created after the Edict of Nikaea. Part of the Edict said the office of Chaplains was to be created in every Legion. Not created to enforce worship like Chaplains in 40k, but to make sure the Edict against the use of Librarians was enforced. Not all of the Legions embraced this but as I recall from the books a few Traitor and Loyalist Legions had a few Chaplains at the start of the Heresy. From 40k Wiki: "The Council's rulings also created a new position amongst the Space Marine Legions, the Space Marine Chaplain, to uphold the Imperial Truth and help maintain the purity of an Astartes Legion's dedication and fidelity to the Emperor's commands." |
