Here's the Colin (French) version of Clausewitz…

And Fieberger's effort (Downloadable as a .pdf or Epub from the Right)

Just as an off note, both Fieberger and Clausewitz did a fairly good job, for back then, regarding the Orders of Battle.

Andrew, I assume your subject line refers to our University Press of Kansas edition?

If you can afford the mere 20 bucks for the paperback, then you get a lot of added value, as illustrious reviewers in prestigious publications approvingly note, eg Professor Frederick C. Schneid in the Journal of Military History:

'An outstanding example of smooth translating and erudite editing and annotation. Virtually every page contains textual footnotes to help an unfamiliar reader better understand the detail that Clausewitz's contemporary audience would have understood. […] Murray & Pringle further provide the reader with current interpretation and detail that makes this particular Clausewitzian history more valuable than the original unexpurgated work.'

We translated and included all the critical analysis from Colin's French edition. Professor Murray added more. We added maps, which are freely available in the group files here:

Hope this helps!

Chris…purchase already planned and my post was no dig at all towards you; just that in light of recent health events, I thought I'd let others know they could patch something together until things were back on course!

I too am Eagerly looking forward to this effort!

As a matter of fact, Dav Vandenbroucke, myself and others were having a conversation about this on CSW that you might want to join in on & clear up.

No worries, Andrew, no dig imagined – on the contrary, thanks to you and to Dav for helping to spread the word, and indeed for buying the book yourself! I'll chip in on CSW shortly.

Chris…I literally bought your book just a while ago for Five Smackers!

Well, Amazon screwed up an order and gave me credit on what I had received, amounting to $13 USD, along with keeping the product (Spinach wraps).

End Result…I get to read Clausewitz and eat Home-Made Dill Egg Salad on Spinach Wraps next week while doing so!

Nun two shabby!

I have Road to Rivoli so don't need anything else on the 1796-97 Italian Campaign although I would love to see Osprey do a book on Arcole and Rivoli.

Same here, HD18, but the Clause/Colin combo has always been regarded as top notch, so glad that it's finally avail in English!

@Historydude: Road to Rivoli is a magnificent book. However, it is narrative rather than analysis; and importantly, Dr Boycott-Brown omits the road beyond Rivoli virtually entirely – the series of actions in March/April 1797 in which Napoleon fights his way across the Alps to the gates of Vienna. Clausewitz covers this important episode as well.

@Andrew: Clausewitz with added spinach? Good deal!

Chris
