Is there any information/reference/photos? At the beginning of Operation Torch were they the 2-color patches (what colors) or the 3-color horizontal "bars." Were they painted any differently for Tunisia? Thanks |

The Somua S35 used by the 12eme Regiment de Chasseurs d'Afrique in Tunisia in 1943 used a three colour camo.

I tend to do all my French armour in sand/green/brown. Then they do for French, German and Italian service:) |

Schogun, what scale are you dabbling in? And do you have pictures of the force you are building up? I am contemplating something similar and could do with a bit of inspiration. |

That S35 is a di-cast comes like that :) |

@Maha -- I game with 10/12mm tanks and armored cars from Pithead. I would like to start painting my French for Torch/Tunisia but need some painting reference. So no photos yet. |

That photo of the diecast Somua is quite close to an image of another S35 of the same regiment illustrated in the Trackstory book on the S35. The differences are that the book image has no brown in the camouflage pattern, just the dark yellow (?) base and olive green wiggly line overspray. The markings are the same apart from swapping the blue heart ace for a red club one. The Trackstory book on the Hotchkiss H35/39 illustrates one vehicle from Tunisia. It's painted exactly the same as though that served in France in 1940, i.e. grey-green base with large patches of umber (dark red-brown) oversprayed. |

Found this on LAF but the photos don't show much. Lou P has one illustration of a S35 in Tunisia though: link |

That's interesting. Three different camo schemes illustrated for the same tank type in the same unit. |

Maybe different sub-units? |
