Nice. Calling NVA "Regulars" always reminds me of that scene in 'Full Metal Jacket' where the marine newspaper editor asks one of his writers if there's an NVA Irregular (presumably since the VC guerillas are paramilitary and not part of the NVA).

Cheeky beggar has a US Army water bottle. Again great highlights on the kit, packs. Love the buckle on the rifle strap.

I was just about to question the grooves on the AK/Type 56 magazine when my brain clicked into gear. This is long before the AKM or AK74 plastic magazine…..durrr

Yes, it happened often that the VC and NVA used equipment they captured from the ARVN or US.

Nicely done.

Oh sure. Nothing goes to waste.

Funny thing they (well VC anyway) are also occasionally seen with an M16. With its contemporary reputation (however deserved or not) they must have been reluctant at best…….

Nice job!

A LOT of the 'captured' kit was bought on the black market. Stolen from ARVN stores or sold directly by the troops or their officers. This included weapons and ammunition.

Some was collected on the battlefield – mostly from ARVN but now and then from US units who had suffered a defeat.

Yes black-marketing was rampant in Vietnam at that time. And yes, generally the VC/NVA got some "kit" from the ARVN. But yes, some was obtained from dead or wounded US troops. Rare … but it happened …
