"Type 90 Naval Sumida Armored Car – Also known as the "Sumida P" this was a versatile design meant for urban assault and security. Photos of this vehicle are in urban settings in Shanghai and Japan and were donated by the Hokoku organization. Used by the Special Naval Landing Forces in Shanghai. Only a handful (2-3) at most were produced.

This platform was used for the Type 93 Broad Gauge Rail Tractor by the Army as an on-off rail convertible armored car. On-road the types are nearly indistinguishable visually aside from the mount points for removable rubber wheels on the sides and rail-specific gear on the front bumper on the Type 91, but the Navy did not operate the rail-going version. The naval "sunburst" flag is seen on the Type 90 images, and the Type 90's are noticeably less "busy" on their sides and front bumper area…."

Designed by the Sumida firm, the M.2593 was produced beginning in 1933 at the Ishikawajima Motor Works. A defining feature of this vehicle is that its six road wheels could be exchanged for flanged railway wheels.[3] When not in use, the tires would be secured to the sides of the hull.[2] The vehicle had four built-in jacks for use when the wheels were changed. It would take ten to twenty minutes to change the wheels.[4] The front and rear sets of wheels could even be adjusted to various rail gauges. The car was capable of 25 mph (40 km/h) on road and traveling at higher speeds on rails, going up to 37 mph (60 km/h).[2]

The car was successful in covering great distances in the 1937 invasion of China. They were also used in Manchuria, to "guard railway lines".[1] They could be coupled together and operate on the rails like "rolling stock". This led them to be used in joint operations with trains and were used for reconnaissance by the army.[2] The M.2593 had a crew of six men, and was armed with either one 6.5 mm machine gun[2] or one 7.7 mm machine gun."

Very nice work. Yes, a unique design that could run on RR tracks but simply removing the rubber tires. And stow them on the vehicle's sides.

I have a 10mm model of it with my 6mm Orks ! Like much of the IJFs' AFVs, they look like they were design/could be used for Orks … evil grin

With a "converted" WWII Italian Sahariana behind it …
