Old school.
Heat nail held by pliers with match and press nail into model.

I used to use the tip of an X-Acto knife on my GHQ minis.

Works well, and you can get some nice shell hits on them, from bazookas, etc., to skirts, as well as main armor.

Leave as bare metal, or add a little black for some scorch marks too.
