At this very moment, on one of the Television Channels in Britain, there's an account of one of the many properties owned by HRH Prince Charles. It's a farm complex of a large house and attendant offices, in Wales. The plummy voiced commentator has just enunciated, confidently and comfortably, wi' a jaurry in the mooth, that this establishment "is about as far removed from a palace as one could imagine". Has this creature never seen a tenement, a tower-block, a row of back-to-back little units? Why do so many put up with this drivel? How much do people in other countries laugh at this? How long can the "juggle" (Thomas Paine, 1790s) continue? Le Citoyen Robert. |

I would assume, that by "palace", the narrator meant dwelling place fit for a monarch. "Long live the Queen!" |

Anyone can live in a palace. Whether a monarch be fit to wear a Crown is another issue. |

Because they don't realize that they have better things to do. A little, we put up with a fair amount here, too. Probably forever, unfortunately. |

As a republican (small r) I would get rid of them. Goes alongside all those chief executives who justify their large bonuses by saying "well I work hard". The times we live in eh? martin |

People want to be rich and famous so they like to watch the rich and famous. Your chances of becoming a billionaire are about the same as becoming the queen of England. |

It's not hard to become rich, or famous. Do something incredibly stupid or evil, and like magic, you're famous…for a little while. To get rich, you just need discipline, knowledge and the willingness to work hard and smart, all while you're young enough to have the energy to actually do it. The problem is, we tend to get the knowledge too late and the discipline…OH SHINEY! |

"I might try for that." Becoming a billionaire, or queen of England? Oh, wait. You can't become Queen of England. YouTube link |

Basically you were watching a British version of "The Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous", remember that one? |

If that's for me, altfritz, I wasn't actually watching the thing, but in essence that was indeed the kind of programme (but I think it was part of the perpetual and sickening campaign to pretend that the Windsors, their heirs and successors, aye, the whole Extra Extended Family of them, deserve to be supported by the rest of us). In truth, I was going from Channel to Channel in hopes to find something that didn't irritate me. I switched it off. |
