…A Pandemic.

"For much of the U.S. military's 72,000 troops stationed in Europe, these are days of hunkering down in an effort to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Thanks to travel bans imposed by the Pentagon and other precautions, Defender 2020 — the planned massive international exercise that included 20,000 U.S. soldiers who were meant to conduct training across 10 European countries — has been greatly scaled back. Air Force Gen. Tod Wolters, commander of U.S. European Command, estimated only about 40 percent of what was intended will be accomplished. The morning briefing:

OK men, listen, the rules of engagement follow strict COVID-19 protocols.

So no close assaults, no hand-to-hand combat, no getting within 2 meters of anyone, whether friendly, enemy, or civilian. Stay spread out on patrol.

Fix the enemy in position with direct fire, and call in air strikes or artillery to finish them.

Snipers, we're counting on you more than usual.

Everyone take at least four sets of latex gloves and a mask on your way out.

Good hunting and stay healthy.

Sorry, artillery and air strikes are called off due to the lack of proper PPE.

You'll have to make do.

Sad to see this conflict still continuing.

I thought they had a "deal" with the Russians/separatists. Seems like I was misinformed, and/or, as usual, the enemy can't be trusted.

Drones and robots in "The Age of Corona" seem like a good idea after all.

The war never stopped. Sporadic skirmishing continues even when the western media loses interest.

I suspect with the USA and NATO friends busily preoccupied with protecting their increasingly elderly populations from COVID-19, that nasty countries will take the opportunity for some quick and easy gains.
