The two most recent GB plastic cavalry sets contain new horses that are anatomically superior to those supplied with the earlier sets in this range. I wonder if it might be possible to persuade GB to replace the inferior horses in the Dark Age Cavalry and Goth Noble Cavalry sets with the improved models.

You could try.

What are the two new sets?

Henry Martini21 Mar 2020 1:38 a.m. PST

The most recent releases are 'Late Roman Light Cavalry' and 'Goth Elite Cavalry'.

I'd assumed that these two sets use the same horses, but since my first post I've tracked down photos of both sets from various angles, and I've noticed that a couple of the horses in the Roman Light Cavalry set still have elongated necks – although seemingly not as extreme as those in earlier sets.

Although the horses in the Goth Elite Cavalry set appear to me to be proportioned more like real animals perhaps they share the same defect, but the effect isn't apparent because of the horse armour.

It would be nice if makers could update sets, but I am not sure if the cost of tooling would be worth it for them.

It never hurts to ask, though.

Conquest Games seem to do nice plastic horses too.

I doubt anyone would update plastic sets. That's quite a cost. But plastics manufacturers should also sell by the sprue. Warlord does …….in a limited fashion.

Asteroid X22 Mar 2020 7:27 a.m. PST

That brings up a good point.

While it may not be cost worthy to buy Gripping Beast sprues as they designed, one may be able to find a metal horse that will fit the riders and purchase those separate.

Then, if you're doing that, you may as well buy all metal to begin with from the amounts you will be spending.

Plastic is NOT as inexpensive as people seem to think it is.

Damion22 Mar 2020 4:38 p.m. PST

Victrix is half the price of most metals from what I've seen and Warlord Games plastics are similar to Victrix pricewise, perhaps a little more expensive.

Asteroid X23 Mar 2020 8:08 p.m. PST

I meant it would be expensive to buy sprues of Victrix cavalry just for different horses.
