"Ten days ago, I was asked to see a patient. I'm a respiratory specialist in an intensive-care unit at a hospital in London, so it wasn't surprising that the patient needed a ventilator. It seemed fairly typical. But the patient turned out to have the coronavirus — our hospital's first case and one of nearly 2,000 people who have so far tested positive in Britain. I hadn't worn a mask. Soon I developed a cough. Though I experienced neither fever nor breathlessness, I was told to self-isolate for 14 days. That's where I am now, in self-isolation. And I'm not the only one from my hospital. After just one patient with Covid-19, a quarter of our junior staff are off with coughs and sniffles we would normally work through. A single case of the coronavirus has wreaked havoc in our hospital…" Main page link Amicalement Armand |

Yes. A large number of folks will be either non-symptomatic or have very minor symptoms. You see this in the New Rochelle cluster. The original case, a Jewish Lawyer, had to be ventilated. His family all was infected. They are all asymptomatic except his wife. She has a slight cough. That is all. This disease is just a cold… except that it is new. Some folks react to it very badly. Most folks react to it just as a cold. This is the real danger. We have no way of knowing how our bodies will react. What is irrelevant or mildly irritating to one, may be deadly to another. Not really for the "Utter Drivel" category, I think, though I can recognise why it's valuable to get first-hand information from reputable sources when something is seen as so important. Self-isolating R le D. |

The dead toll is low… only 3. Mostly of the infected became from Europe… the borders are shot down and we have to remain at home… Some people (25%)…are not yet aware of the issue… but majority are… the big problem is … no banks… no money… no bill payment… no school… all day at home… supermarkets and little markets have merchandise… for now…prices are high… no toilet paper panic here… (we don't understand why toilet paper… really… canned meat or vegetables are more logic…I mean … this is just the beginning … we will see in 10 days what happens … surely the number of infected and dead will rise …
Nobody believes what the Chinese say about no more deaths or infections there… this is really serious and worldwide … whoever who does not understand it … will pay dearly… Amicalement Armand

One of the biggest issues in this case is that getting a good grasp and perspective is really, really, really hard. We tend to pick up on certain things, if we hear stories about people coughing twice and little else, we may latch onto that and minimize the potential risk. It doesn't help that numbers of cases and infection percentages don't mean much to our monkey brains. If the death rate is 2.5% then people can assume that they will be fine 97.5% of the time, but let's look at this in another way. Imagine if you go into your local supermarket and there is somebody at the door who counts the people coming in and for each hundred that enter they select 2-3 people and they are taken aside at the exit and then killed. Would you still go to that supermarket ??? This time we can save a bunch of people, not by rushing into a burning building, or storming Omaha beach or flying a bomber above Tokyo, just sit tight and watch Netflix, think you can do that soldier ??? |

Not trying to downplay Covid-19 situation. I mean anything that kills 924 Americans is just 2 weeks ought to taken seriously, right? Well, so far the US has experienced 201 deaths attributed to Covid-19 in the US. The 834 figure? That's the number of deaths in the US from normal influenza in the first 2 weeks of March! And over 3,900 since the beginning of 2020. So why are going to such extremes over this one? |

Everything I see and read the rate of death to infection is actually dropping as more are found with it but deaths are not increasing with that. link |

The problem with the death rate percentage is that they compare the number of deaths to the number of known infections. What they don't know are the number of actual infections because of the lack of test kits and people getting infected and only showing minimal symptoms, so they don't bother reporting in. We won't have valid numbers until after we don't need them, what we've been getting have been best guess numbers that some folks are using to get headlines or try to scare the public. As to the toilet paper frenzy, the rumor I heard is: the masks and toilet paper are made from the same base material, so with the ramp up in mask production there will be a shortage of TP. From people I've actually spoken to, "everyone else is stocking up, so if I don't then I won't be able to resupply". A self fulfilling prophesy. |
